Sorry, I also had computer problems and had to reformat 2 different Dells Luckily I had both XP discs and I didn't have to re-install the drivers... However, I sent payment earlier today, Hope it still lands me in this break, I haven't checked the vids so I'm not sure if I even got anything. I have no problems with the way the break went off, and I will be doing more in the future if the Bengals are open. Thanks again. Colin |

Actually, this is the first time they are actually buying something other than preferred shares into banks. Yes, they have "given" the banks money, the first TARP spending was direct capitol injection...not hard asset buying. That being said The first rule in economics is there is no free lunch...there is no such thing as free money.
This is what they wanted to do THE FIRST Time with TARP spending, buy "toxic" assets to get them off the books of C BAC and others. You keep market to market accounting rules and get these assets onto the books of the US Gov, which is a book that never ends. I don't care how they do it, Paulson had a reverse auction idea which I thought was a good idea..but either way I'm glad they are finally buying hard assets.
Not saying it's the right thing to do, or even a great idea...but it's about 6 months old at this point. I think the market reacted the way it did today because they finally see the Gov spending money on the root of the banks problem. One final writedown and they are clear from the obligation. Direct capitol injection keeps the assets on the books and they keep writing them down because no one wants to buy them and they keep loosing value.
Paulson wanted to do this the first time and got talked out of it. I love it because my CEF's have tons of bank bond exposure and this should help them continue to meet these obligations. It should also help the corporate paper market which the Gov has been backing.
If you think it won't work, short the banks....get out of the US dollar and write an article about that. I hate, hate, hate reading finance crap that gives you one side...negative. When in reality, if you knew anything about finance, you'd make the case for some other asset class that will benefit from ones downfall, or when the shorting opportunity is clear as day.
How about making a case for upstart banks that avoid all this mess now? How about foreign banks?
I want to hear ideas, not just this won't work. You said in another post the DOW goes down every time Obama speaks....that's great, I'm the only one that gave you an Ultra Short Dow ETF that will make you lots of money if you're right.
Do you really just want to be stuck in the mud and negative all the time...cool if you do, I'll scoop the paper while all the republicans have their heads in the sand.

QUOTE(stlbaseball15 @ Mar 23 2009, 01:27 PM) Wall street sure jumped today at the prospect of more free money. I guess Obama didn't speak today...shucks! Also it's not free money. They are buying assets these banks wish they never got into in the first place. But it's not free money. Its your money. When you make it to college take a finance class, and how about posting your own opinions instead of some op-ed suit in the back that is bitter his 401K is still wacked because he doesn't know what a limit order is. |

More Stock Pics:
Small Cap: ELGX --Makers of a newer device that treats AAA disorder. Just slipping into profitability. Just raised guidance today (for the second time) for 2009. You're a little late to the party but I think this stock could be inching toward $2.75 by the end of the year. FHC --Maker of the Female Condom. Profitable, Just got FDA approval for FC2 which increases margins and lowers cost to the end consumer (that's like hitting a grand slam in business) Again, you're late to the party (bought this stock @ 1.97) however...the company has a solid share buy-back program still in place with "only" 25.79m shares outstanding...I think this stock will be comfortable in the $4.00 range by the winter.
High Risk: UNTD ---United Online a conglomerate of some-sorts I guess, FTD Flowers, Classmates.com, MyPoints.com, NetZero...and others make up this companies portfolio. Just got down-graded by S&P or one of the ratings agencies. However, solid balance sheet, strong cash flow, and aggressive CEO makes this a sleeper. CIDM ---SUPER Sleeper, invest at your own risk. Horrible balance sheet, risky market...but an idea that has HUGE upside if they can get traction in the marketplace. Mark Cuban, Sony Pictures and some big time movie producer are people who have a stake in CIDM.
Shorting Opportunities: I'm horrible at shorts, but I've got to put WWE here. EPS is 0.62 and the yield is 0.36 for common equity and I think 0.24 for preferred. There are other triggers, but a dividend cut has to come by the 4th quarter or numbers are going to be flat or negative for sure. Under $10 again soon.
Best of luck with your trades, remember...it doesn't matter what you think of the current administration, you can make money in ANY market!!!!
