Sorry, I also had computer problems and had to reformat 2 different Dells sad.gif Luckily I had both XP discs and I didn't have to re-install the drivers...

However, I sent payment earlier today, Hope it still lands me in this break, I haven't checked the vids so I'm not sure if I even got anything. I have no problems with the way the break went off, and I will be doing more in the future if the Bengals are open. Thanks again.

Colin

I love your passion for politics, and I agree with a lot of what you put up, but how about why you don't think it will work and why. I honestly 100% could care less what a guy who gets paid to write says. That stuff is always negative and gives me no solution or no where to go. I think you have interesting things to say, I would like to know what you think...why do you agree with the economist?

I apologies I must have misread your previous post.

Either way, I want to know why YOU don't think this will work and possibly an alternative. Otherwise it's just one side of an argument and that's not any fun. You may be right, I definitely could be wrong...but just this aint going to work doesn't cut it for me, even if you've got hardware on the mantle saying otherwise.

Actually, this is the first time they are actually buying something other than preferred shares into banks. Yes, they have "given" the banks money, the first TARP spending was direct capitol injection...not hard asset buying. That being said The first rule in economics is there is no free lunch...there is no such thing as free money.

This is what they wanted to do THE FIRST Time with TARP spending, buy "toxic" assets to get them off the books of C BAC and others. You keep market to market accounting rules and get these assets onto the books of the US Gov, which is a book that never ends. I don't care how they do it, Paulson had a reverse auction idea which I thought was a good idea..but either way I'm glad they are finally buying hard assets.

Not saying it's the right thing to do, or even a great idea...but it's about 6 months old at this point. I think the market reacted the way it did today because they finally see the Gov spending money on the root of the banks problem. One final writedown and they are clear from the obligation. Direct capitol injection keeps the assets on the books and they keep writing them down because no one wants to buy them and they keep loosing value.

Paulson wanted to do this the first time and got talked out of it. I love it because my CEF's have tons of bank bond exposure and this should help them continue to meet these obligations. It should also help the corporate paper market which the Gov has been backing.

If you think it won't work, short the banks....get out of the US dollar and write an article about that. I hate, hate, hate reading finance crap that gives you one side...negative. When in reality, if you knew anything about finance, you'd make the case for some other asset class that will benefit from ones downfall, or when the shorting opportunity is clear as day.

How about making a case for upstart banks that avoid all this mess now?
How about foreign banks?

I want to hear ideas, not just this won't work. You said in another post the DOW goes down every time Obama speaks....that's great, I'm the only one that gave you an Ultra Short Dow ETF that will make you lots of money if you're right.

Do you really just want to be stuck in the mud and negative all the time...cool if you do, I'll scoop the paper while all the republicans have their heads in the sand.

QUOTE(stlbaseball15 @ Mar 23 2009, 01:27 PM)
Wall street sure jumped today at the prospect of more free money.

I guess Obama didn't speak today...shucks!

Also it's not free money. They are buying assets these banks wish they never got into in the first place. But it's not free money. Its your money.

When you make it to college take a finance class, and how about posting your own opinions instead of some op-ed suit in the back that is bitter his 401K is still wacked because he doesn't know what a limit order is.

Weak Dollar & Inflation Plays:

Think the US is in the dumps and going further in the dumps????

GLD (ETF) ---Everyone's favorite Gold Play!!!! A GREAT GREAT Investment if you think the dollar is going to be weaker (and get weaker) followed by inflationary pressures from printing money and government spending (and low interest rates) Seems like a good bet to me at least on the inflation side. Be careful, Gold prices swing hard...buy only on downswings.

OIH (ETF) ---One of the favored oil plays in the ETF game. A weaker dollar means HIGHER Gasoline Prices (remember this time last year) That is because OPEC Oil is traded in US Dollars, so a weak dollar will take more dollars to buy the same amount of oil it did when it was at a higher value. That combined with inflation (probably starting in Spring 2010, maybe sooner) means Higher Prices for "everything." Not quite as safe as Gold but a similar move if you have dollar weakness combined with inflation.

You could always short the greenback as well. Or hedge by moving into a different currency all together. It's tough though, there will be weakness in all currencies in the coming months as "stimulus" (aka Printing Money) will happen in Europe and China. I prefer industrial or mining plays in that case since I don't know jack about currency. RIO is a gamblers play if you like China.

More Stock Pics:

Small Cap:
ELGX --Makers of a newer device that treats AAA disorder. Just slipping into profitability. Just raised guidance today (for the second time) for 2009. You're a little late to the party but I think this stock could be inching toward $2.75 by the end of the year.
FHC --Maker of the Female Condom. Profitable, Just got FDA approval for FC2 which increases margins and lowers cost to the end consumer (that's like hitting a grand slam in business) Again, you're late to the party (bought this stock @ 1.97) however...the company has a solid share buy-back program still in place with "only" 25.79m shares outstanding...I think this stock will be comfortable in the $4.00 range by the winter.

High Risk:
UNTD ---United Online a conglomerate of some-sorts I guess, FTD Flowers, Classmates.com, MyPoints.com, NetZero...and others make up this companies portfolio. Just got down-graded by S&P or one of the ratings agencies. However, solid balance sheet, strong cash flow, and aggressive CEO makes this a sleeper.
CIDM ---SUPER Sleeper, invest at your own risk. Horrible balance sheet, risky market...but an idea that has HUGE upside if they can get traction in the marketplace. Mark Cuban, Sony Pictures and some big time movie producer are people who have a stake in CIDM.

Shorting Opportunities:
I'm horrible at shorts, but I've got to put WWE here. EPS is 0.62 and the yield is 0.36 for common equity and I think 0.24 for preferred. There are other triggers, but a dividend cut has to come by the 4th quarter or numbers are going to be flat or negative for sure. Under $10 again soon.

Best of luck with your trades, remember...it doesn't matter what you think of the current administration, you can make money in ANY market!!!!

The DOW Jones is only 30 Companies....but it is sometimes signals technical moves that will effect the overall market. Hardly something I look at on a daily basis when picking stocks to invest in.

What most people don't know is that you can play the market on both sides, short and long. You can make as much money in a crash as a roaring bear rally.

I've said it on this forum before, if you are scared...think its gloom and doom. Obama is the devil....Put your $$ where your mouths are:

Here are my picks for you:
Stock Ticker:
DOG ---Think Obama speaks and it goes down...You'll be lovin everyday he does so with this ETF. (DDM for you bears)
SKF ---Think the Banks are going to stay broke, more writedowns, less loans, larger reserves...This is for you.

Best of luck with your trading!

[Edit: Dow Jones Is only 30 Companies, not 50]
