Just read this and found it interesting that it mentions the card companies and seems to insinuate that there may be some not-really game used swatches in our cards. I find it interesting that since the card companies are league licensees that they wouldn't have some kind of agreement with the league to get them direct. Although in the case of vintage items, this wouldn't work, so maybe this was the only way for them to get the jerseys of past players.

Card manufacturers don't just get them from the league, they buy them from other sources like these companies. I would imagine the majority come from the league, but who knows, this part of the hobby did not become big until this decade so they could have been buying from companies like this for several years.

There is no guarantee that the auto cards are real either, when they send them to a players home and have them return them. They could have their kid sign for all we or the companies know.

Exactly, and thats why all these insane prices bother me so much.. there is no guarantee of any of it being real..

Thats crazy, I always wondered if the GUs I had where Kmart or real game used stuff, I always wanted GU cards to have date's on the cards that they wore the jerseys at the games they played! seems like that will never be the case, hate photoshoot GUs!

And on top of that. The company's that authenticate GU items and auto, JSA, PSA/DNA etc, are all junk to. I posted a topic with a video from fox news (link no longer works) about it wayyy back showing them authenticating a fake auto! Its funny in a way but sad in another. The way things have been going the last few years the card industry might just go bust. It would break my heart but, I guess at that point everyone would be collecting vintage. Because there would be no such thing as new stuff. Whats out would be what there is to collect. But all those old boxes would get cracked and a lot of white whales would pop up that have been sitting in old dusty boxes. But we might also see a nice raise in value of everything if that happened. But anyway. If theirs money to be made on something than fakes are right behind.
