Collector Zone _ Baseball Group Box Break Marketplace _ Vintage Baseball Packbusters Group Break

Posted by: crpalmi Aug 21 2011, 01:18 PM

Hey guys...time to try another Vintage Baseball Pack Busters Group Break. We did this a few months ago and followed that up with a Vintage Hockey break so it's time to try it again with BB. I recently opened a 1971OPC BB pack and just love the look of OPC cards as well as the fact that they are more scarce than Topps so the profits if flipping are quite nice. From that pack I pulled a Reds team card that graded a PSA 9 and covered the cost of the whole pack ($200) and a number of PSA 8's that will be pure profit. That's with no star power at all! Long story short...I'm trying for an all-OPC product list which I know is not for everyone but let's give it a shot.

The format will remain the same. As soon as payments are received we randomize the slot order using random.org. Say we have 10 slots purchased... we randomize the list of participants, and once randomized if you end up with slot #4, you will receive the 4th card pulled. We then randomize the slot order again and we do this as many times as we need to cover the amount of cards we expect to pull. Once all that is established we then randomize the order in which we open the products (although if any one product is particularly cheaper than the others that product will be placed last). That way if we don't have the same number of slots as cards, if anyone is shorted a card it will be from the least expensive product. Also, if any inserts are included in the packs those will be the last "cards" given out so once the final pack is opened we then go back and the 1st insert pulled would go to the next slot in line, and so on.

I know this may sound confusing but once we get into it I'm sure you will see how this is the most fair way to do it as well as a way to ensure that everyone gets something (although it's possible you may get a card less than others based on the random order of the final round.

All this will be established prior to opening any packs so everyone will know exactly which card they get. All pack openings will be on video and I will say the name of the person who will be getting the next card pulled as we slowly slide the cards off the top so everyone knows who gets what.

Cards would be well protected with the understanding that condition would be of primary importance!

So, that's the long read...next question is who would be interested in joining us?

Cost: $80 per slot (based on 10 slots filled)
Payment Deadline: September 7th

Proposed Product List;

1966 OPC Baseball Pack
1970 OPC Baseball Pack

Looking for 4 more slots to get this one going!

Posted by: crpalmi Sep 4 2011, 11:10 PM

No other takers??

Posted by: crpalmi Sep 7 2011, 09:23 AM

DenverSJB10 joins us with a slot. Still have 3 slots to go and it looks like if we can't fill those in the next week or so we may have to shelve this one. Anybody up for an additional slot?? If we get to 9 I may be able to take the last one just to make it happen...

Just mailed my payment. dry.gif

I'll put a video out to see if I can generate a couple extra participants. I'm motivated more than ever now as I got my grades back from PSA on the 71 OPC pack I opened about 6 months ago and finally got around to sending in. Mostly 8's with one 9 and most were commons yet I pocketed about $600! OPC is on fire for resale value!

Posted by: crpalmi Sep 18 2011, 10:10 PM

Great news guys...the break is on! Yzerisdaman has taken a slot and Miconelegacy has taken the final 2 slots to fill us at 10 slots claimed.

Next order of business is to get payments in and also to let me know if you prefer the 66 or the 67 OPC pack as both are priced the same.

Chris
Im ok with either pack. Payment will go out tomorrow.
Thanks

Packs have just been ordered. I had to go with the 1966 pack over the 1967 due to availability. We were able to get a discount so I upgraded the 71 pack to the 4th series which should give us a shot at Nolan Ryan. The 72 packs I went with series 1 which were slighly more expensive than series 2 but the star power is better. I'll keep you posted but we could be looking at breaking sometime next week.

By the way all packs were ordered from Steve at BBCExchange.

Hey guys, sorry about the delays in communicationn on this one. I'm hoping we will be all set to break on Saturday. I am on the road again so won't be able to do it prior to that but we can at least set up the random order. We will break the packs in chronological order starting with 1966 and work our way up to 1972. The cards will go to those in order as they are pulled with the exception of any inserts which will be saved for the end and will go to the next person on the list following the last card in the final pack. I randomized the 10 slot order 5 times as that should provide enough rounds to cover all the cards pulled. Here is the order;

Round 1:
1. Miconelegacy
2. Yzerisdaman
3. FrankieFBCards
4. Scmavl
5. Tmgrnzx9r
6. CaptKirk42
7. Miconelegacy
8. Crpalmi
9. Axe725
10. DenverSJB10

Round 2:
1. Tmgrnzx9r
2. FrankieFBCards
3. Miconelegacy
4. Axe725
5. Crpalmi
6. Yzerisdaman
7. Scmavl
8. DenverSJB10
9. Miconelegacy
10. CaptKirk42

Round 3:
1. FrankieFBCards
2. Crpalmi
3. Miconelegacy
4. Miconelegacy
5. Yzerisdaman
6. Axe725
7. Tmgrnzx9r
8. CaptKirk42
9. DenverSJB10
10. Scmavl

Round 4:
1. CaptKirk42
2. Yzerisdaman
3. Miconelegacy
4. Crpalmi
5. Scmavl
6. FrankieFBCards
7. Axe725
8. DenverSJB10
9. Tmgrnzx9r
10. Miconelegacy

Round 5:
1. Yzerisdaman
2. CaptKirk42
3. Miconelegacy
4. Scmavl
5. Crpalmi
6. FrankieFBCards
7. Tmgrnzx9r
8. Axe725
9. Miconelegacy
10. DenverSJB10

Hopefully for those of you new to the break this format makes sense but basically we just keep ripping and keep going through the rounds in order until we run out of cards so it is possible that slots in that 5th round will not receive cards.

Good luck all and I will let you know when I'm back in town when we can set a break time but Saturday night looks all right by me!

Hey Frankie! Just you and I but this vintage stuff gets lots of looks on Youtube so they'll eventually be seen.

1966 coming right up.

nice start!

Posted by: crpalmi Oct 8 2011, 09:41 PM

Next up is 1970 OPC. A quick side note that since Miconelegacy has two slots...while I was doing this pack I made a mistake and read the wrong slot order as I skipped from his first slot to his second. I followed it up with another video with the correct recap...sorry about that!

Frustrating centering to say the least but at least some good star power in that one.

Next up is our first of three packs of 1972 OPC;

Last pack of the break...our 3rd pack of 1972. Quick note as at the end of the video we award the inserts in the predetermined slot order however I came up the winner of the Mantle insert and I'm just not comfortable with that so I have randomized it amongst all participants and it is going to Miconelegacy.

Here's our final pack;

That will do it folks. I love OPC but the centering continues to be just brutal! A few stars sprinkled about and a few gradeable cards which could quite possibly pay for a slot price or two... I just wish there were more!

Thanks again to all who participated and the cards will be packed carefully and sent out on Monday.

Next up will be the vintage FB break but I think we'll have alot more packs included as we'll have less $200 packs and more $30-40 packs like 76T, and maybe as recent as 81T or even 84T.

Thanks all!
