I thought I would start a thread for all my IP/TTM autos as I get them. I probably will not be updating as much as Silly does, but since I do love the pursuit of signatures, I should have a nice thread going here.
We will start with a huge IP that I got last Friday. I was at NY Comic Con (Yes, I am a geek of comics as well) and I got a text message from a buddy letting me know Carmello Anthony was doing a free signing at a Modells Sporting Good Store in Times Square. At first I wasn't going to go, but as the time drew nearer I decided to go as I knew the chances of my adding a 'Mello auto to my Knicks PC would be tough. This was the easiest opportunity I had.
I got there an hour before the signing. A small line had already formed. I was kinda shocked as I thought there would be a small mob for a player of Anthony's stature. I guess it wasn't that heavily hyped.
To get his auto, you had to buy a "shooting" gel for 10.00. I grabbed that as well as a basketball for about 25.00. I got my ticket and waited on line.
Mello arrived a bit early and got to work. No picture taking was allowed. Before I got to the door, a Modells employee told me that Mello wasn't signing anything but the pictures that were provided. I did get a bit upset becasue before hand, I spoke to a few employees about the signing. They could have told me that no other items would be signed. Oh well, I will return the ball after I thought to myself.
I finally get up to the front of the line and shake Mello's hand. To my surprise, he reached for the ball and signed it for me. I was walking on cloud 9 as I walked out of the store with my treasure.
And here's a pic of my very first Knicks signed basketball
Charles Oakley and Allan Houston are suppoed to be doing a signing on Saturday in Manhattan. I will try to make that as well. I have a few mini basketballs that need signatures.
Mike
Cool little story to go along with the sweet ball
Oakley? Cool, he was a really tough dude when he played
Thanks Mark.
Oakleys always was one of my favorites. Knicks haven't had a tough player like that since Oakley was traded. They need someone like that again. Turiaf could come close, if he could stay healthy.
Mike
Ok, so this update is a couple months old, my apologies.
So, back in October, Charles Oakley and Allan Houston were appearing at a Men's Warehouse in Manhattan, along with some other NBA alumni. Well, Oakley showed up but no Houston. That stunk for me, but at least one of my favorites showed up and I was first in line as well.
The event was poorly run. There was nothing for the players to sign, except white paper. Since there was no promotional 8x10's, I decided I would just get Oakley. When the line opened, I walked up to Oak man and gave him the ball to sign. He muttered under his breath how much he hated signing these balls, took the wrong marker and signed it and that was that.
If you look at it, the signature is horrible. He didn't take the time to sign properly and used the wrong pen. Now, I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep it as is since it is an Oakley auto, even though you really can't tell or just use Goo Gone and get rid of it.
Mike
Just noticed this thread. Good luck! Too bad on the Oakley but that is part of the game. Win some and lose some.
Allan Houston had the best pure form jump shot I have ever seen. I use to have a poster from SLAM magazine on my wall when I was a kid! ha good times!
Also, Comic con isn't geeky for a few reasons. Even though I haven't gone to one yet and I do intend to go I see the lineups of who is signing. There are TONS of good people and quite often athletes. Lance Briggs is a regular at the one out here. Also have you see the women that walk around? hahah
Seen the women a these cons? Silly, I was drooling!
Mike
Too bad about Oakley
I happen to go to movie conventions every year, even travel to other countries to be a part of them.. and trust me, only mainstream conventions have a surplus of "drool-able" women
Newest TTM recieved:
Former Jet Matt Snell signed 2 customs.
Been sending out a bunch of stuff these past few weeks. Hopefully, I will have some cool stuff to show off very soon.
Mike
Nice ttm. Its such a great feeling to get them back in the mail
Nice Snells. I'm sorry about that Oakley, I feel your pain.
Thanks Justin and Jason.
Yesterday, I got a nice TTM for my Islanders and 500 Goal scorers signed puck collection.
Former Islanders great Bryan Trottier signed this puck and generic custom in about a weeks time
Thanks for looking.
Mike
Another addition for 500 Goal Scorers Signed Puck collection and it's one of the all time greats
Guy LaFleur signed this in under 2 weeks. The auto isn't the greatest and I blame that on my puck selection. The next time, I will send out the autograph pucks that are popular. But, I am happy I have another one down.
So far, I have:
Guy LaFleur
Brett Hull
Dave Andreychuck
Johnny Bucyk
Michel Goulet
Brian Trottier
Jeremy Roenick
I have 2 other pucks out right now. I have to scour SCN to see who signs and who I am going to have to buy.
Thanks for looking,
Mike
Hey everyone,
Sorry for the absence. I've had a lot going on with work and in my personal life. Stress and depression rules the day lately and I haven't been buying much or sending out as much as I should.
I have been playing catch up and I did get a few TTM's in. I have to some scanning, but here's one that doesn't need scanning:
Bobby Hull signed puck for the 500 Goal Scorers PC I'm working on. This was sent C/O the Blackhawks and took about 2 months to get back. Awesome success.
Mike
Very cool! Bobby is awesome and when he gets on a roll telling stories watch out!
Great success. One of the best players all time
Man, I have been so busy as of late that I haven't had time to post of pics of my more recent additions to my autograph collection. I've been rebitten by the autograph bug, so look for more successes soon. Either that, or it's bed bugs. Not sure which just yet
Anyway, first, the TTM's
Bobby Hull signed this custom card for me when he signed the puck.
Former Jet Mike D'Amato signed my custom and included a signed 8x10
Ralph Baker
This was an auto I have been wanting for a long time, Mark Jackson c/o the Warriors
Now for the IP autos
About a week ago, I attended the Devils Blood Drive. I grabbed this puck, figuring this particular player was going to show up and greet the donors. I'm glad I listened to my instinct cause I was correct. While I was waiting to donate, he showed up and I snagged his signature on this puck
Ken Dayneko. This is my second signed puck from Mr. Devil. He signed one for me after a charity event and it was a rush job. This one looks so much better as he took his time with it.
This next one, is not a sports auto, but it falls into my other passion. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a huge superhero fan, particularly Spider-Man and Batman. One of the good things about living in NYC, If an actor is playing on Broadway, I can wait for him/her after the show to see if I can get an autograph. So, I waited and got a cool auto for my superhero collection
Andrew Garfield, who will be playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Amazing Spiderman, signed this 8x10 after leaving from Death Of A Salesman
Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.
Mike
Nice adds!
Today, I got to meet New York Jets Defensive Tackle Sione Pouha at the NFL Pop Up Store in NYC. It was totally by accident as I didn't even know there was a signing. He signed 2 pictures and a mini helmet for me
Thanks for looking,
Mike
Nice. In case you didn't find out already, they have a signing there every Tuesday and Friday. They announce it on their Twitter hours before. Is the photo they provide an 8x10?
5x7, I think.
@officialnflshop is the twitter
Mike
Finally added this player to my Knicks Collection
Keith Van Horn signed 1/3 in a few months. I thought that he didn't sign initally since I didnt see this card until last. Pretty happy to have it signed.
Mike
Nice additions!!
Great stuff lately Mike
Thanks guys
Mike
Yesterday was another Jets TTM mailday.
A side note first. Recently, I bought a large coffee table book called The Complete History Of The New York Jets. I haven't read it as of yet, but it has a lot of pictures. I thought to myself, this would be an awesome piece to have signed by all the important players in Jets history.
Small problem, not a lot of these players do any signings and the top 2, Namath and Maynard, are cutting theirs down. So, I came up with a solution.
If said player is making an appearance, I will get him to sign the book. If said player signs TTM, I will send him a book plate and have him sign that and I would stick it in the inside cover.
Here's a pic of the book I'm working on
Yesterday, was my first TTM sucess for it. Marty Lyons, who was a part of the famous New York Sack Exchange of the late 70's-mid 80's signed 2 book plates and a mini helmet in silver sharpie.
Mini helmet
Bookplate
and it's place in the book
Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.
Mike
Little late in updating this. Here are some recent additions:
Walt Michaels signed a book plate for my book
and 2 photos
Ed Asner signed 3 photos
John Astin signed 2 photos
Walt Flanagan signed 2 photos
And he sketched a Batman and signed my artist card
Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.
Mike
nice idea for the jets book.
Thank Justin. I'm starting a Knicks one as well.
Mike
Recent TTM's
These came back messed up
The envelope came back dirty as well as the back of the pictures. I'm thinking they got trampled on. I hope it's not the paper as I used a diffrent paper than I usually do. Ill wait on the others from this batch to come back before I make a decision.
Mike
Here are some recent TTM's
These are fakes
Third sketch card. I love how these are comming out
Mike
Been a while since I got any ttm's. This came in yesterday
Y.A. Tittle signed this 5x7 and a bookplate in a few months time.
Going to try to get a requests out this week to get myself back in the swing of things.
Mike
A few new additions from TTM Land:
Jean Beliveau
Charles Oakley
Rosemary Harris
Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.
Mike
Today's TTM's
Michael Ray Richardson
Bill Belichick
Mike
Today's success is of former NY Jets Cornerback, John Dockery. He played on the Super Bowl 3 team and later became a broadcaster. He signed 3/3 for me.
Mike
1 TTM Today. Former Jet Al Atkinson signed 3/3
Mike
Couple nice additions as of late! congrats!
Thanks so much!
Arriving Friday was Steve Atwater. Signed 2/2 in 17 days
Mike
today bought 3 TTM's. 1 success, 1 failure and 1 I believe to be faliure. The failure was from Lou Ferigno who didn't sign my pictures and sent them back.
Success was from former NY Jets running back Mark Smolinski who signed 3/3
What I believe to be secretarial-Matthew Broderick 2/2
Reason I think it's secretarial is because I sent the request to him c/o his Broadway show and the photos were returned from CA.
Mike
2 TTM mailday
Bill Virdon
Bobby Shantz
Mike
This week's successes
Art Ditmar signed 2/2
Hockey Hall Of Famer Ted Lindsey signed 3/3 and added a signed pamphlet about his career and life. One of the photo's came back with a crease on it, but I'm still pleased with the success.
