Last night I watched the $17K box break of the "Master Collection" box on CNC in this link:
http://www.tradingcardcentral.com/forums/i...opic=321056&hl=And it got me to thinking, what are the Card companies thinking, sure I get doing manufactured patches saves them money and lets them put stars in products they could not otherwise do like Ruth, Wagner, etc. However, do they really think putting these things in a higher end products with product logos is something that collectors want?
Watch the video of the product, the concept was neat in that they did 30 different players and they all match up to make the logo in that box, so that was neat, but beyond that, those cards would hold very little interest or value to me.
Sometimes these manufactured patches work, like when OPC did the team logo MF patches set a few years back, it was a neat concept and represented the team more than a player. However when you assign a player to these there has to be some idea besides a product logo. In Black Diamond which is a mid end product they have manufactured patches and some are OK as they represent team logos or team banners for those players, however it is still MANUFACTURED and for the price of that product you really should not be buying "fake" hits. The killer one in for me was when I saw a Tom Borrasso card in a break last night with the product logo, not only was the logo upside down, but beyond that what does it have to do with any player??? It wasn't even exciting to see, besides the player selection being out of touch with today.
Anyway, that is my rant, so I am going to avoid these overpriced products with manufactured patches.
What does everyone else think of the concept of using manufactured patches in products?
