QUOTE(sgmco @ Jul 23 2008, 09:39 AM) I cannot believe this hasn't filled yet. I for one love cardboard that comes in the mail free of cost (the hillbilly in me I guess). you're exactly right. it's not like the prizes are scrubs, these are absolutely amazing prizes being given away with nothing to lose and only 5 minutes of one's time.

QUOTE(RGBII @ Jul 23 2008, 06:07 AM) We have a winner, dj_4dig is correct.
After a dismal performance, a local reporter asked Parker what he thought of his effort in a post game interview and he replied "like I always play, I'm an Eveready battery."
The Pittsburgh fans weren't impressed with the reply and pelted him with batteries for the next handful of home games.
Collect Hard!, RGBII thanks this was definitely a stumper, but everyone mentioning "eveready batteries" gave me the clue to find out the connection between battery and dave parker. also, i've been watching the show Monk, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows. maybe that helped too?

QUOTE(sgmco @ Jul 23 2008, 12:29 PM) Monk is the BOMB--never seen a better acting job---he plays the perfect skitzoid they were originally going to cast Richards from Seinfeld, but he declined. i'm glad he didn't take the part because as it is the case with any good tv show, you can't imagine the character played by any other person. originally i thought Monk was one of those religious tv shows just by the name so i never watched it. i always wondered how a religious tv show about a Monk could be so funny. boy, was i incredibly mistaken by my very poor assumptions. the ocd that monk portrays are absolutely dead on and his acting is incredible. i watched season 1-4 in 2 days (rented from the local library). (guess this is going off topic)....

Folks, we got two more contributions in today. Aaron (pspstatus) sent these in . . .
Mega-sweet contribution! Someone's gonna be fired up when we give them away!
Wesley (wezz60) sent these . . .
Unbelievable! The cards are nice but I was impressed more by his hand written note. With Wesley's permission I'm going to post a portion of that note.
This is coming from a teenage collector that has just sent a complete 24 card set '02-'03 Topps Around the World Basketball subset to someone that he has never met. I don't worry too much about the future of our Hobby with members like Wesley coming up to take the reins.
Thank you to both gentlemen and all that have contributed. The Background Contest is going to be a monster!

Now that I have acknowledged the generosity of the contributors, I'd like to vent a little.
As everyone knows, today is the release date for 2008 Topps Allen & Ginter. Well, I'm into this product for 4 cases. Yet none are at my door! I really didn't expect two of them for a couple of days but the other two I was dearly looking forward to popping with a vengeance.
Oh well, now I'll have to find another way to occupy my time and attention.
How about a new contest?
The winner receives this . . .
The rules: Guess, to the nearest 100th the weight of my supper! That's two decimal points for the mathematically challenged (I have alot of room to talk here huh?) I'll shut this one down at midnight EST.
We still need contestants in the Pennsylvania/North Dakota contest.
