Ladies and Gentleman please give me a minute of your time to present the December 2010 Trading Card Central Member of the Month, Rob (patsfan52). Rob has proved a huge asset to the family here at TCC over the last three years and an asset to the trading card hobby.
Rob is a spring chicken at the ripe young age of 58. Do not let his young age fool you he is experienced in the real word and the world according to cardboard. He has been collecting for over 20 years and it’s the excitement of the hobby and the rush of busting that fresh wax that keeps him coming back for more. He still remembers the day he busted into 1992 Upper Deck Heroes and pulled that Reggie Jackson Autograph. Of course he still dreams of the day he busted open some more heroes and pulls a gorgeous Ted Williams Autograph. He fancies himself a player, set and team collector who loves his Red Sox, Patriots and golf.
He credits his grandfather with getting him into collecting at a young age. His grandfather was an avid collector of Mass coins and stamps. For Rob that love rubbed off and since he was into sports he gravitated to cards. Of course the family reminds him, as we all hear, that he will never make his money back but it’s the love of cards and the plans to pass his incredible collection onto his son one day that keep that dream alive.
Outside of cards he is lover of all John Wayne movies especially The Longest Day and Operation Pacific and has a love for great music like the Rolling Stones, Beatles and Ozzy Osborne.
Rob can be found all over the forums at TCC but of his over 8000 posts 40% can be found in football trading. We asked him if he could make one card what would it be and he suggested a Ted Williams caption card reading Honor and Glory card. When asked why he said due to Ted’s service to his country and dedication to baseball. What a great idea.
He wanted to thank us for the honor of being Member of the Month but it is all of us that owe him a great deal of thanks. As an asset to the hobby, a friend at TCC, a veteran of military service who served in defense of this great country and the rights we all hold so dear along with his love for giving back to the veterans that have served before, during and after him. You sir are the one that deserves the thanks and the honor is ours here at TCC to have you as our member is the month.
I am hunting for the following:(Gu/Au)- NYY: Jeter, Mattingly, vintage and HOF Yankees -If you know me anything is possible but you have to know the secret stuff I will bite on.
