Without going into every detail, I wanted to help explain my general absence for the last week... Starting on Memorial Day, I began to notice a problem with my left eye. By Tuesday morning, my left eye was very swollen and very red. After seeing my regular doctor on Tuesday afternoon, the thought was that I had "pink eye" or something similar and I had some drops to put in my eye. With the drops, my eye was to be showing signs of improvement by Wednesday afternoon or so. If not, I was to see an eye doctor. With no improvement or even worsening by Thursday, I saw an eye doctor who agreed with the general problem but provided a stronger version of drops. The new drops did show some gradual improvement to my left eye, but by Friday night, I realized I would be waking up on Saturday with the same problem in my right eye - which I did. In addition, I started to generally feel sort of sick with headaches, a sore threat, etc. So, yesterday, I had a follow-up visit with the eye doctor who agreed that the left eye was improving but confirmed that the infection had moved into my throat as well. So, I'm now on an oral antiobotic for 10 days in addition to the drops. My next follow-up visit is on Thursday. Bottom line is that I managed to get the most stubborn (WebMD's word ) case of this and it's been hard for me to do much using my eyes for the last several days. At best, I've been able to get on the computer a few times a day for 5 minutes or less per time. I've also not been able to work the whole time and am not allowed to go back until some time next week. No driving, sleeping in a different room, washing my hands and things I touch constantly, avoiding my young son - everything adds up to a very, very long week. That's the bad news... The good news is that the new medicine seems to be helping and this is the longest I've been able to sit and focus on something with my eyes yet - even though it's requiring some squinting. I'm going to try to run through the posts and my PMs right now. Also, I apologize to our NBA Playoffs contest and giveaway winners, but your prizes have not yet been shipped. They will be tomorrow though. Enjoy the "quiet" time because as soon as I can get back up and running, we're going to get busy on lots of stuff again. -Bob

To quote from the classic South Park episode:
QUOTE Doctor: [á la James Stewart] Very interesting. Mortician: What, what is it doc? Doctor: Well, your- your temperature is only 55 degrees, you have no pulse, no heartbeat, and your, your eyes are all puffy and sticky. Mortician: Oh no, you mean… Doctor: Yeah, I'm afraid the two of you have - Pink Eye. (Marty and the mortician gasp) I'd give you topical medicine, but I don't wanna touch ya. Marty: Oh I'm so hungry, and all I can think about eating is, eh, 's brains! Doctor: Yeah, well for God sake don't touch your eyes. I'll prescribe some antibiotics.
get better soon ...

Bob When something like this happens you realize just how important little things are, like touching your child, or even seeing for that matter, I am so glad you are on the right track to recovery, who knows how bad it could have been if you had waited a little longer. Get well soon, and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
