Was setting up my mancave and I stumbled across a box with one of my all time favorite pieces in it....

....but first the story... wink.gif

Back in 1994 I was in my local coin shop, which also a carried a small selection of sportscards. I remember buying some singles, and then I bought two packs of 1994 Skybox Premium hoping to pull a Marshall Faulk rookie card... I opened up the packs in the store but pulled nothing memorable, and I headed out to my truck.

Once out in my truck, I was looking at a silver advertisement card out of one of the packs... and that is when I noticed it wasn't an advertisement but rather a redemption card! ohmy.gif Who the heck had heard of a redemption card back in 1994?

I got out of my truck and ran back into the store to show the owner... and he was ticked! laugh.gif I guess he had ripped about a half dozen packs himself and he was not a happy camper that he did not pull the card himself.

Here is what the redemption card was for...

Well, there were 500 of the redemptions, which is a lot compared to many of the cards today... but back in 1994 there was a lot more product being pumped out, so I think the odds were pretty tough... unsure.gif

And while occassionally I see them listed on the bay, the set really doesn't sell for much... usually about $50. But I still put it down as my greatest pack pull ever... biggrin.gif

Very sweet! and cool story behind it as well! Yea back then you could pull rare cards numbered to 25k!! blink.gif 25K!!! If 25k was rare how many commons were there? 100k?? 1 million?? lol I have a few like 97-2000 cards that were numbered to 10k! laugh.gif And that was rare. Anyone remember the like 4 sports auto that were numbered to like 5k+! Heck the 1999 UD patches were 1:7,500 pack pull! I also pulled a MJ final floor card from UD MVP 1:2,500 pack pull! cool.gif

But yea 500 back then was like a card /25 today maybe lower!

Always looking for Edgerrin James and Javarris James cards I need!

**MY WANTS**
-2007 topps tx superbowl ticket stub auto versions only. Base set of stubs is done!

It's a wonder why card companies don't employ redemptions like this very often. I think anyone would be psyched to pull a redemption for something sweet looking like that, even today! BTW '94 was the year of the redemption as Pinnacle offered the redemption for the entire draft set in Dufex for football (I pulled 4 Marshall Faulks which ended up being the winning card for a complete set). Upper Deck had the Behind the Glass redemption in Basketball (I pulled two of those). Fleer football had redemption cards for the update set with Faulk's Rookie (I pulled 3 of those). Needless to say I busted a TON of wax back then! There was also the Alex Rodriguez redemption from Score. I am sure I am even missing some of the minor ones like Classic/Four Sport.

OH yeah I forgot all about the Predictor set in basketball! I also managed to pull the winning predictor card for scoring 4 times (Shaq maybe) and for Assists 3 times(probably Stockton). Like I said, THE YEAR OF THE REDEMPTION 1994! laugh.gif
