QUOTE(cardinal @ Jan 10 2010, 04:31 PM)
First, the storyline was not as amazing and as compelling as it seemed. It had the most ANNOYING narrator ever with this obnoxious accent. It dragged on so badly. I just felt throughout the whole movie that it wasn't going anywhere. I saw it when it came out, which was about a year and a half ago, so after seeing it on your list I want to give it another chance but I did not enjoy it the first time around.

--

When I said it was the arguably the worst movie I ever saw, I meant that I'd have to think if there was a movie that I personally liked less, so I think it is arguable....for me.
*

I thought it had a very good message of caring for the elderly, plus I thought it was a good love story as well. Their interactions with eachother seemed more genuine to me than the vast majority of Hollywood films. I really enjoyed the sets and cinematography as well. I do agree about the narration. Brad Pitt overdid the raspiness for sure.

Dave, I see you're another Coen brothers fan... Fargo is my all-time favorite movie. I just love it.

And you spelled Lebowski just fine! (I have a poster right above my computer to prove it laugh.gif)

The Coen brothers are my favorite director(s), even if Intolerable Cruelty and the Ladykillers aren't as good as the rest of their work. Didn't love Burn After Reading when I saw it in theaters, but I want to revisit it to see if it grows on me as much as some of their others did. Fargo was the first movie I own that I made the Blu-ray double-dip on.

Oh I LOVED Burn After Reading... I thought it was just fantastic... I haven't seen the two movies you didn't like and I want to see the most recent one that came out too (whose name escapes me)....

I liked but didn't love the Big Lebowski the first time I saw it, but after the second and subsequent many more viewings, it's my favorite movie. The same thing could happen with Burn After Reading when I get around to seeing it again. Their new one is A Serious Man. It didn't get a wide release - I had to go to an arthouse theater to see it. I really liked it. It's in my top 5 for last year. It's kind of a slow burn that delves into many of the themes present in their other movies, especially The Man Who Wasn't There.

A Serious Man... that's the one. It got great reviews and that coupled with Coen brothers made me want to bite. I plan on picking up their full library on Blu Ray if they ever become widely available. Fargo will be the first one then I'll go from there. I just got a Blu Ray player on my laptop and I'm pumped about it. They rule; it's like night and day from DVDs.

I've been on a serious BluRay kick myself ever since I got a PS3. I actually just preordered a Serious Man yesterday when the price dropped to under $20 on amazon. The only Coen movies on bluray so far are Fargo, no country for old men, and burn after reading.

I love the Coen Brothers, they seem to never dissapoint imo. Is Serious Man available on DVD or Blu Ray yet? Everytime I ask a sale associate, they have no idea what i'm talking about, and it wasn't playing in any cinema in my area sad.gif
