Collector Zone _ Figures _ The Most Rare McFarlane Figure Ever......

Posted by: dodgerblue38501 Jan 10 2009, 02:17 AM

The most rare McFarlane sports figure ever produced will be part of the Cooperstown Collection 2009 Series due out this February. This series will feature the likes of: Rollie Fingers, George Brett, Bo Jackson, Lou Gehrig, and Babe Ruth as a pitcher for both the Red Sox and Yankees. ONLY 3 figures will be produced of Ruth in his 1920 Yankees uniform wearing a blue hat similar to the hat worn by the Bronx Bombers today. The other Yankee figures of the Babe will depict him wearing the white Yankees hat with blue pinstripes worn by team in 1920. These 3 rare figures of Ruth will be sealed with blue McFarlane tape to signify that no tampering has taken place. The rarest figure up to this point in the McFarlane line was a Teemu Selanne NHL Series 6 Winnipeg Jets hockey figure with him wearing jersey # 13. Only 13 of those figures were produced. One of those rare Selanne figures recently sold for $8,500 !!! Can you imagine how much one of these 3 rare Babe's will bring? Be on the lookout folks. Somewhere in a Wal-Mart in middle America there will be a Babe wearing that blue hat.......the chase is on!

These are out. I saw some at a show this past weekend. I've been meaning to check eBay to see if any of the 3 Ruth's have turned up yet.

Interesting!

Bruce (What's on Second) sold his 2 Ruths Saturday to Al Snyder 2 hours before I showed up Saturday Bruce forgot to check his messages on the phone so I missed out. He had a few Gehrigs and Nolan Ryan (blood stained) but I passed on those. Guess I have to deal with Willie's All American's shop at the Flea Market.

Our Wal-Mart doesn't carry too many McFarlanes or I would be on the lookout!

One of the 3 rare Ruth figures has been pulled. I believe a collector pulled it from a case he purchased at a card shop in Oklahoma. The lucky collector consigned the figure to Beckett for them to sell on eBay through their account. The link is below.

Can you believe someone asked how much it would cost to ship the figure loose? There are only 3 that exist and some moron wants it opened so they can save $5 on shipping! Wow! That may even be dumber than anything anyone has ever asked me at my shop. laugh.gif

I saw one of the Ruth figures wearing the Red Sox uniform the other day at Toys R us. I didn't buy it. Should I have? Instead, I bought a Jets Favre figure. I don't collect McFarlanes, so I don't know much about them. But, being a Favre fan I couldn't pass it up.
