2009 Playoff Contenders

user posted image

The first thing I noticed when I saw the sell sheet for Playoff Contenders this year was the quality of "case guarantees". Being Panini's first year with the product (they bought Donruss) I
expected them to do big things with it. They did not dissapoint.

On average a case of 12 boxes will deliver:
1 ON CARD auto per box
4 autos in 4 of the boxes
5 autos in the other 8 boxes
5 "Legendary Contenders" autos
1 ON CARD auto of: Percy Harvin, Mark Sanchez, or Matt Stafford
2 ON CARD autos of: LeSean McCoy, Michael Crabtree, Chris "Beanie" Wells, Jeremy Maclin, Josh Freeman or Knowshon Moreno

nice review...unfortunately the product doesn't quite match up sad.gif

guaranteeing signatures of players per case is ridiculous...it doesn't make the 'chase' seem legitimate anymore.

I like the horizontal design, and on card signatures. My one gripe with the sigs are don't make a holofoil card if your going to have on card signatures! the holofoil smears and bubbles signatures way too much!

great review though!

Well, most people can't afford to buy an entire case, so for those (most everyone) the "chase" is still the same. At least this way the guys who do buy cases know they're going to get something. I think it beats the alternative where 1 case may have nothing but scrubs, while the next case has 10 superstar autos.

its definitely a plus as well. Just looking at it, it just add way too many more signatures of these rookies into the market. I know values aren't the real reason for the hobby, but its going to burst the bubble when you can pull a top rookie autograph in every box of product soon.

you can't forget the boxes that don't have the 4 or 5 autos i did a group break that had 2 boxes with only 3 autos. waiting to here back from Panini. I think that one of those boxes was missing its one on card per box as well

I really do not like when they do "odds" for a case. The reason I say that is say the dealer opens a box on his shelf and someone pulls the Sanchez, the rest of the case is "shot" for the other buyers as you know you are not going to get a big hit, and this will probably lead dealers to dump boxes once they know the big "hit" was pulled from the case. This probably happens more than were told but hearing it does not make it any funner to open the product, it makes me more leary about purchasing it if I see the dealer has already sold 3 boxes from his case.

The odds are on average.A couple weeks ago i pulled the Stafford college auto out of a 5 pack break from a new box.Saturday i grabbed the last 3 packs he had from THE SAME BOX-all i pulled was the Crabtree redemption. So just because the base rookie is pulled thats listed at 1 per case, there still could be a college auto,a sp legend auto,or some of the #D/10 autos.
