I'm not surprised, to be honest. They've been creating far too many titles lately; after GH 3 it has been a madhouse of band-game after band-game. And, the Warriors of Rock took the series in a direction it didn't need to go.

Couldn't agree more. I'm pretty happy actually that Guitar Hero is getting cut, it was just becoming annoying with the insane amount of Guitar Hero games coming out in what seemed like every couple months.
