Sad day in Hockey.

The great mark Messier announced his retirement.

I will never forget his jubiliation when the Rangers won the cup in 1994. he outta be the poster boy for hoisting the cup until the end of time.

He already had hoisted it 5 other times and yet I feel that this was his most memorable.

I still have a goal magazine from a Blues game with him on the cover his rookie year.

The Edmonton Oilers team with Gretz/messier/Kurry/Fuhr etc so on so forth is still the greatest dynasty in the modern age of hockey. Oh How I long for those great high scoring days to return soon..

Goodbye Mess thanks for the years of enjoyment, the hits, the scores, the assists....You truly are one of the "great ones".

What about the Isles of the late 70's early 80's Trottier, Bossy, Gilles, Smith or the Broad Street Bullies?

I will not miss Messier, I thought he was a good player, but he was made to look better by the players around him. He really disappointed me when he speared a Penquin defenseman who was pushing him around in front of the net in 2003-04. To me he did not have the class that the rest of his Edmonton teammates have and he was always too cocky.

Hey, the new season is getting ready to start with lots of new faces and more scoring based on the rule changes, so we will see what happens.
