Collector Zone _ Group Box Breaks _ Boxbreaker's November multi-sport break

Ok everyone here we go....
I am going to give the multi-sport break the ole college try! As you know Chris (crpalmi) has done an amazing job hosting this break for the past few years, and in no way can I completely fill his shoes, but will give it my best. As before everything stays the same. Here are the rules
You give $75 for your initial slot which will consist of 1 chosen team and 2 drafted teams. Once everyone has picked their chosen team and all payments have been made we will start the draft. I will go onto random.com, enter everyone's name, and then click the "radomize" button 3 times. Whatever order comes up next will be the order in which we draft in. We will start with number 1 and go to number 40 on the draft then back to number 1 (randomized slot number 40 will have the 40th and 41st pick). You can only have 2 of your 3 teams per "slot" be in the same sport. After the draft is complete we will take a day or so to "auction" off the remaining teams in the break. All of that is the same as Chris had it....here is the only real difference. The break will be held on blogtv.com. I will post the address on the day of the break and we can all come into the site and I will break the boxes live on there. You will get every card that is pulled of your teams.
I will put the list up of people that were in the last break with the teams they owned. You will be able to keep your initial chosen team.
I am putting the thread up VERY early just to make sure we are going to get enough participation. My plan is to have the break on November 6th so we should have everyone paid so we can start the draft on October 30th.
Cost: $75 per slot (each slot consists of one chosen and 2 drafted teams)
Payment Date: October 30th
Break Date: November 6th 7pm central

As an additional query, will the policy on multi-player cards stay the same, or does the fact that the break will be live rather than taped allow for real-time randomization?

My thoughts were that it would stay the same. If one person "owns" the majority of the teams on the card then that person gets the card or if the ownership is equal then the card will go to the team represented on the top (if the players are vertical on the card) or on the left (if the players are horizontal).

Thanks Travis....I'm still in with my 4 teams (Lakers, Dodgers, Cardinals (BB) and Rams). By the way...you still have the Rams listed on the available list.
If you are interested in opinions on multi-players cards...I would love to see them randomized amonst the owners unless someone owns the majority of the teams represented. However, its your break, so whatever you decide is fine with me.
Quick question...I am very often not available for the live break. Will the fact that you are doing it on BlogTV mean if you aren't here for the live break, you can't actually see the breaking of the boxes? I haven't spent much time on BlogTV, so I don't know if you have the ability to record the break for those that can't see it live. I know UStreamTV does it live and gives the ability to record the videos for later viewing...just curious about BlogTV.

Got the list updated now! Sorry I forgot to take the Rams off of there. Here is hoping for some sweet Bradford action for ya! He seems to be the real deal in St Louis right now!!
As for the multi-player cards I am up for what everyone else wants. I am perfectly fine with using random.com to distribute the multi-player hits. This is not MY break this is OUR break.......by the people, of the people, and for the people, or something cheesy like that!! LOL So I am good with what everyone else is good with. Let's vote on this.
I just chose BlogTV because I knew it was an a way to watch it live instead of recorded, but yes I agree it would be nice to be able to go back and watch the saved video so I will just set up a UStreamTV account and we can do it on there!

Ok everyone let's vote on how we want to handle the multi-player cards. The way they have been handled is if someone owns the majority of the teams represented on the card then they get that card. (if the card had Ryan Braun, Joey Votto, and Albert Pujols on it and Cardman owned the Brewers and Reds and I owned the Cardinals then Cardman would get the card because he owned the majority of the teams represented). This is not for vote. This seems to be a fair rule so we will maintain this rule.
This is the rule we will vote on. Previously if the ownership is equal on the card then we would go with whoever owned the team represented on the top (if it's a vertical card) or on the left side (if it's a horizontal card). Our other option is to randomize the card on random.com. The way that will work is I will take the owners of the teams represented on the card, insert them into random.com, then click the "radomize" button 3 times. Whoever's name is on the top will get the card.
Those are our options. Let's vote on this issue. I will count the votes on the 29th and whatever we decide then will be the rule while I am hosting this break.

I'm going to regret this later but finances call for me to drop a team so the Cavs are now available!
By the way I vote to keep the multi-player cards the same format but will certainly be fine with what the group decides.

As for multi cards I'm okay with Kiansdad's rule. If anything did change I wouldn't mind seeing a claimed team take precedence over a drafted team when it comes to ownership.

Ok folks it has been brought to my attention that the Bowman Sterling products both of baseball and football had several redemptions in them. The most significant being the Chris Johnson cards in the football product. With this information would you all like to switch these products for another product. I would be looking at possibly getting a box of Triple Threads baseball from a different year and a triple threads football box. That would give us 2 boxes or TT in baseball but from different years. Let me know your thoughts please.

Yes they are expired. I don't have an issue with ANY redemptions from Panini because regardless of the year or product they will fill them. BUUUUT Topps and Upper Deck are a different story.

KING FELIX (my largest individual player collected) is well represented in Triple Threads as well as all of the JR in Ultimate making them that much more attractive for someone like me. Hopefully it pays off....

I have gotten a lot of emails on the "live" break on blogtv or ustream, and it sounds like many people won't always be able to be there for the live break. For the sake of familiarity and difficulty I will just do the group break the same as Chris did it. I will record it and put the videos on youtube and the link in the group thread, as Chris did.

Ok payments are due by Saturday @ 3PM. I will start the draft then as long as all the payments are in. I still have not heard anything from Rymharri who has the Cowboys and Waxfoilmania who has the Bobcats.

Ok guys before I put up a thread for next months break here are a few ideas I would like to run by people.
First, we need to re-name the break. Chris let me use the "boxbreakers" name, and I greatly appreciate it, but it's still his name. So if anyone can think of a clever group name for us to break under then that would be great. Give me any thoughts.
Second, I am thinking of shrinking the break to 30 slots at $100 a slot. That would still allow us to have about 4 boxes per sport. The issue is every month we seem to have around 30 to 35 people in the break that are always there, and by the end others usually end up needing to fill extra slots that they normally wouldn't fill. For instance I had 4 slots this month when I would normally only take 1 to 2 at the most. If we did go to 30 slots @ $100 a slot then every slot would have 4 teams instead of 3. We would draft 1 extra time. We could always keep it at $75 a slot and have 30 slots, but the product would have to drop at least 1 box per sport. Just let me know everyone's thoughts on this idea.

Travis, I completely understand your concern about the break not being able to fill and causing you to have to take more slots than you are comfortable with normally taking because you don't want to be the bad guy and shrink the product lineup. I too have been pushing it with taking 4 slots regularly, and my budget and bills are telling me I am probably going to have to scale back in the near future.
It's a tough choice....I'm not thrilled with the idea of slots going up $25 each nor am I thrilled with the idea of the product lineup shrinking. The fewer boxes opened per sport, the much more hit-or-miss the break becomes. I know I won't be able to continue with 4 slots if we go to $100 a slot and the break continues to be monthly.
One idea I was thinking about running by you is possibly making the break bi-monthly (every other month). I know if we did that, I could probably add a slot or two because it would be easier to budget for. However, that is just my opinion and you and others in the group may very well wish to keep it monthly. It is a unique, fun break and I really enjoy the whole process of the multiple sports and the draft, so I hope to break continues to succeed and I am able to participate, but I agree that some re-structuring is probably necessary to make it work best for you and for the participants.

Joe I completely agree with everything you said. I want to see the break succeed, because I thoroughly enjoy every bit of the process, but here needs to be some changes. Having the break bi-monthly could be an option. I had not thought of that. I would like to see what other members on here think. I have already heard from Jmash24 and he will not be in next months break, and if I drop 2 spots and you drop 2 spots that takes us down to 33 slots filled if everyone else took all of their slots. I'd be OK doing $100 or $75 but agree that dropping down to 30 slots would make sense even though I'd hate to see the product list shrink. I ended up taking an extra slot or two almost every month to try to get us to 40 so I can feel your pain. Every other month is an option although I don't know if I would take more slots than I already have.

I'm ok with $100 per slot. I would drop to 3 teams at that price (4 at $75) but as you pointed out it works out the same with the extra draft picks. I would hope that with only 30 teams available across 4 sports we would be able to find enough collectors interested in their teams to fill the break. This is by far my favorite break and it has allowed me to greatly broaden my collection into sports I wouldn't normally have as much interest in. No matter which direction the break goes in I will be involved.

Travis, I really liked how you did the videos. Turning the cards to the side, as you look at the other card is a good Idea. I think Dropping the slots to 30 isnt a bad idea. I for sure wont be taking 5 slots again. Let me know what you guys decide. Thanks for the break.
