Collector Zone _ Product Reviews _ 2010 Plates and Patches

I dont have much to say about the product that hasnt already been seen, but if you are thinking about shelling out the $110+ bones to buy a pack, check out this video. Chris from the Hobby Box busted 45 boxes as part of a group break

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFAGZPP2Yqk

Overall, I was completely unimpressed with the product. The card designs are a far cry from even mediocre. No on-card autos, that I saw. The cut autographs, 1 per case, are a joke! Many of the major hits were one color patches, with some really skeptical packs, in terms of quality. At no point do I think Panini was trying to deliver for their customer. Panini did a good job making us think we were gonna see a great product, especially with all the delays which turns out wasnt to avoid all the redemptions, but once again, they fail to deliver.

I will not be purchasing this product.

4.5 out of 10

I watched some of this and I think they got like 3 or 4 redemptions in the first 7 or 8 boxes and 1 of the redemptions was the encased card... plus 2 Suh patch/autos in the first couple of boxes. There were alot of guys pulled I never even heard of.

I haven't watched this particular break, but I did see several other breaks and this stuff is awful... design is terrible, and take a look at the placement of some of the sticker autos.... it looks like someone was in a hurry and just slapped them on....

I think we have a contender for worst football product of the year....

Couldnt agree more....its just tragic to see companies fail to do something they should be at least attempting to do, step up their game:(

I watched the first 3 or 4 boxes that were opened in the break and stopped but not because the video is long. I just wasn't impressed by the product.

Another disappointing [unnecessary] release to add to the ever-growing list.

It seems like collector's demands are very simple and we've shown we are willing to pay for a good product.

The cards are ugly! And a redemption is a magnetic holder is just to much! laugh.gif

I kinda scanned through some of the video, I seen a couple nice hits, like the Bradford Patch auto and 1/1 Meachem! I cant watch over that much video with no sound (on my end)! laugh.gif

Some of the cards dont look bad, but others. I will add this to my list of stuff not to open! laugh.gif laugh.gif Its really funny because I don't open anything! laugh.gif

WOW. you guys are rough. I have to say, I dont think this is the worst product of the year by far. The encapsulated autos encased actaully look much better than alot of sticker autos nowadays. Not a terrible set at all. Would I buy a box? No, but there are worst products. There are some other nice designed cards too.

We are all entitled to our opinions Dylan, I have heard from a couple others who like the designs like yourself. Personally, I absolutely hate the design. And hate is a strong word. That is how strongly I dislike it....

Certainly I have seen worse, but I think my major issue with the product is the lead up and the price. Panini made attempt to sell the product as though it was new and innovative. It was typical with low quality hits and agin for the price, the design was extremely poor. If offered the choice between this and a box of Score, I would have to take this, but not by much.

Personally, I like the look of the patch cards. With SP Authentic not being NFL anymore, part of me wonders if this will be the future "SPA auto" type deal. I also like that they are showing that they will go get the lower tier players to sign, I just don't like that they watered down the hobby version of this as much. It would have been desirable to see them do something like Rated Rookies and throw some of those junk autos into retail only, and not into a 100+ dollar product that is based on 1 pack of Hits.

On a less related note, I think that Topps Chrome Football Hobby was the worst product this year, and maybe of the last couple of years. The retail was excellent, but the hobby was god awful and gave me a legitimate headache opening them as I was getting screwed pack by pack...

But, I digress. The patch autos are nice looking, still too many redeemers and way too many scrub autos.

i have to say the designs arent actually too bad and i really the encased auto patches look very good as well as some of the city limits. alot of the insert hits that dont have the normal designs i like, but there are way way way way too much redemtions and they need to take more time putting some of the stickers on for the autos. the stickers that are straight with mint cards should be graded immediately because there wont be much with that same grade. i bought a demaryius thomas encased auto patch for my PC and i have to say it looks awesome but nothing in this products except the patch autos make me jump out of my seat. i am expecting to see a steep price decline in this product just like what happened to ultimate collection last year when people were unimpressed the product

I don't think it was that bad. laugh.gif Of course I might change my mind when my redemptions come in. laugh.gif

Well, here are the reasons I think it was...

Design... hate it

Price... ridiculous

sticker autographs

weak patches... and I do mean weak... and small while we are it...

Redemptions out the wahoo...

And they delayed release on this because....?

Awful, awful product.... ranting.gif

Tell me how you really feel. laugh.gif I am not defending this product, but I don't think it was the worst IMO.

Did you buy any? unsure.gif

I did not, but got in a group break on this and thought some of it was weak, but some of it was nice that was pulled, and some stuff like the encased rookies was way too high numbered at that price point. Still I liked some of the designs and some of what was pulled.

Yes this was pricey, as is most stuff now days. We have fueled the manufacturers to provide for the gamblers and speculators hoping to hit the lottery in a box of cards. We created the monster that feeds off our $ and creates these high-end rip-offs!

Yes way too many redemption as I am sitting on two and saw quite a few pulled. Too many pulled, but it appears Panini is doing a lot of that this year with all it's products.

Yes, sticker autos plagued this product, but they also plague the industry, its the easy way for manufacturers to complete cards without risking damage. Right or wrong it is what it is and I am guessing we are going to be seeing more of this.

Patch size and coloring, did not think were too bad, but did see some one color ones which is just wrong for this type of product (or any product). As for the size I don't mind them being smaller if there is a decent image of the player. I can't stand ITG's product where you get a swatch that is 80% of the card and then a player name, to me that just looks stupid no matter how nice the swatch. I'd rather see 75% of the card covered with a picture of the player making that memorable goal, touchdown, etc. than a huge oversized swatch.

Overall, did this product fail? I don't think so, I think it came up short in many ways and better in others. Hopefully, they will get it right for next year. unsure.gif

I have been in a few box breaks with this and didnt think it was too bad. Maybe, I didnt mind because I got an encased Tebow auto. I think its like so many others as a hit or miss product
