I think it is an indicator of what our cards will do over the next ten years as well. You cannot expect much appreciation in value in cards anymore until they hit 25 years old, with that said, I would say several will see some increase in the next two years, but moderate at best. With todays product...too many autos and GUd will drive values down in the next ten years for todays products. Also, with an oversaturation of product, that will also help drive down prices as many people don't collect subsets, or even insert sets, just particular players. This means you open the value of your collection to the "ethics" of players. Vick is a prime example of the that, and I fear even Sean Taylor's cards will hit a quick decline even though he won't be signing any more cards. Once a player is revealed to be "immoral" our collections will take a hit. Only the extremely popular and revealed players cards will hold value. All others, people will lose interest and slowly go by the wayside.
For the true "collector" who collects only for the sole pleasure of it (how many are there of those left?) this means nothing. For those who look forward to leaving it to our children or grandchildren as an investment...buy gold.
It's just a truth we have to accept. Our collection will only increase in value when we add new inventory, a big rookie shocks everyone, a card hits 25 years old, or the player dies.
plink plink....my two cents worth...in 10 years it will still be worth 2 cents

QUOTE(Pantherfan68 @ Jan 9 2009, 07:09 PM) I would love to go into a card shop and pay me a older card like you are talking about but, times are hard with mess we are in. I was told by a collector awhile back that I should lay off purchasing wax pack from stores like Wal-Mart or Target and go spend save up your money and go buy a sngle card or two. He said that I should be able to get the cards sort of cheap because, of our economy. I may take trip thing weekend to my local card shop and see what they have. I kinda disagree that the 16-25 has little or no interest in vintage. basicly on the fact they will get older and views probably will change. I was the same way. Then I evolved a bit wondering...what was before John Elway, Orange Crush, etc. Now I just concentrate on stuff before my time. It's old, but fresh to me... if that makes any sense.
