there must be 20 screws holding that leg together..

Absoltely amazing..

I remember in 1973 or 74 when the great mare Ruffian went down in a stakes race against secretariat maybe..

She was put down before leaving the track..which a much lesser fracture that barbaro suffered saturday.

The Miracle of Medical science that could save this fine specimen of a horse.

I think I will forever remember watching this on TV much the same of Theismann leg getting bent over by LT on Monday Night Football..

I think of the 10 or so horses that have had these types of injuries 7 of them have been put down on the track. Even if Barbaro lives, he will never be the same again. He definately will not be able to gallop, its possible he may not even be able to trot. Bottom line is the only reason they did 5 hours of surgery on this horse is to try to keep the bloodlines. In about a year, they'll put him to stud. If he cannot perform, then he will be euthanized. I dont know.. am I the only one that would rather see a human break their leg?? Just so sad when it happens to a horse.
