I knew it. Something tells me that "accidentally" stumbling into Richards medicine cabinet was not a well thought out plan.

Also, I do not need any passwords. I'm just not a fan of forgetting them after being gone so long from a single place.

October 28, 2014 - 11:28 AM, By Barbara Boland

Over 214,000 doctors won't participate in the new plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA,) analysis of a new survey by Medical Group Management Association shows. That number of 214,524, estimated by American Action Forum, is through May 2014, but appears to be growing due to plans that force doctors to take on burdensome costs. It's also about a quarter of the total number of 893,851 active professional physicians reported by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

In January, an estimated 70% of California's physicians were not participating in Covered California plans.

Here are some of the reasons why:

1. Reimbursements under Obamacare are at bottom-dollar - they are even lower than Medicare reimbursements, which are already significantly below market rates. "It is estimated that where private plans pay $1.00 for a service, Medicare pays $0.80, and ACA exchange plans are now paying about $0.60," a study by the think-tank American Action Forum finds. "For example, Covered California plans are setting their plan fee schedules in line with that of Medi-Cal-California's Medicaid Program-which means exchange plans are cutting provider reimbursement by up to 40 percent."

2. Doctors are expected to take on more patients to make up for the lost revenue, but that's not happening, because primary care doctors already have more patients than they can handle. "Furthermore, physicians are worried that exchange plan patients will be sicker than the average patient because they may have been without insurance for extended periods of time, and therefore will require more of the PCPs time at lower pay," says the study.

The study also points to two reasons that doctors might not get paid at all:

3. An MGMA study indicates that 75% of ACA patients that had seen doctors had chosen plans with high deductibles. Given that most of the patients are low-income, doctors are concerned that the patients cannot meet the deductibles and they will get stuck with the bill.

4. HHS requires that insurers cover customers for an additional 90 days after they have stopped paying their premiums: the insurer covers the first 30 - but, it's up to the doctor to recoup payment for the last 60 days. This is the number one reason providers are opting to not participate in the exchange plans. Currently, about a million people have failed to pay their premiums and had their plans canceled.

So, Obamacare is asking doctors to take on sicker patients for less money, with the risk of not getting paid at all? No wonder doctors are running from these plans!

Meghan McCorkell
October 28, 2014 5:45 PM

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—Early voting just started last week in Maryland, but there are already accusations that some voting machines are changing Republican votes to Democrat. Now Republicans are calling for an investigation by the State Board of Elections.

Meghan McCorkell has more on the machine controversy.
As Marylanders go to the polls, there are concerns that the vote you cast may not be for the candidate you want.

“We’ve heard from scores of citizens in our district and around the state who have had this problem where they hit one button to vote for one person, and when they go to the summary they see that the other person was checked,” said Del Nik Kipke, ® Anne Arundel County.

Republicans say they’ve received several dozen reports of Republican votes being changed to Democrat.
Del. Kathy Szeliga says it happened to her.

“I kept pushing the Republican guy’s name and the machine kept going beep, beep, beep,” said Szeliga, ® Baltimore & Harford Co.

Now GOP leaders are calling for an investigation.
But the State Board of Elections tells WJZ they received less than 20 reports of calibration issues with machines.

Twelve have been thoroughly tested– and the problem could not be replicated.
The others are out of service.

Democratic candidate Anthony Brown says he’s confident the board will address all issues.
“I think we should always be vigilant to make sure that voters can cast a ballot and that it’s accurately recorded,” said Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, (D) Maryland.

In a statement to WJZ, board officials say “election officials receive similar reports in every election. Post-election analysis has shown that this is caused by voter error. Voters with large fingers or long nails or voters who hold the touchscreen with their palm resting on the screen seem to report this issue more frequently.”

The State Board of Election advises voters to find an election judge immediately if they have any problem with the machines.

Members of the state Republican Party are calling for the state Democratic Party to join them in calling for an investigation into the machines.

Video: Votes for Republicans Switched to Democrats in Illinois

10:01 AM, OCT 29, 2014, BY MICHAEL WARREN

Two Illinois voters say their attempts to vote early for Republicans on an electronic voting machine were registered as votes for Democrats—and they say have the video evidence to prove it.

The voters are 18- and 19-year-old Moline residents who asked to remain anonymous. They say they went to their polling station on Monday, October 28, at the Moline Public Library. Both say they were aware of recent news stories that other early voters in their area had experienced difficulties voting on electronic machines. The complaints have been widespread.

The Republican House candidate for the area, Bobby Schilling, claims 20 supporters have called his campaign to say that their attempts to vote for him were switched to his opponent, Democratic congresswoman Cheri Bustos.

"Two nights ago, I took a call from a supporter of mine who said that his mother-in-law had gone to the library to vote and that every time that she went to push my name that it automatically bounced up to my opponents name," Schilling told KWQC, the local NBC affiliate, on October 24. "I thought, well, maybe she mixed up, she's an older gal, but come to find out in the last two days I've taken 17 calls of people saying the exact same thing."

The two Moline voters say they didn’t expect to experience problems. They figured the problem was older people were having difficult with the machines' touchscreens. But both said their attempts to vote for Republicans on several races were switched to select the Democrat. One of the voters said he tried to vote for the Republican candidate in the races for U.S. House and the state senate, and that both his votes were registered as those for the Democratic candidate. The second voter said he had the same problem for those races as well as those for the state house and the Rock Island County clerk race.

“I pressed the top of the box for [Republican state senate candidate] Neil Anderson, and it clicked for [Democratic state senator] Mike Jacobs,” he said. The machines, both voters said, require the use of fingers, and no stylus or other device is provided.

The voters say they decided to use their cell phones to film their votes after having trouble. They said they wanted to show how easily the machines registered the wrong vote. Watch that video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtbqebpV9vY

Eventually, both voters were able to vote for the Republican candidates, as they say they preferred. They said the screen appeared to be poorly calibrated, so that while pressing anywhere in the box for a Democrat registered a vote for the Democrat, only pressing the bottom half of the Republican box did so for the Republican. The only way to make the correct vote, they said, was to press the incorrectly checked box to “uncheck” it, then press low in the Republican’s box. The voters say they were able to figure this out without calling over an election judge for help.

In an article in the Quad City Times published Monday morning, the Democratic clerk for Rock Island County pushed back against the criticisms of her office’s handling of early voting.

Kinney's office has been the target of a Republican Party attack that not only is she opening ballots early and counting them but that her voting machines are calibrated in such a way that switches votes from Republican to Democrat.

Rock Island County Circuit Judge Lori Lefstein denied the GOP's emergency injunction on the counting of absentee ballots.

"There is nothing wrong in this office," Kinney, a Democrat, said afterward.

One of the voters who spoke with me says his attempt to vote for Kinney's Republican opponent was registered as a vote for Kinney. He eventually voted for the Republican.

Jon Schweppe, a spokesman for the Schilling campaign, says he called an official on the Illinois state board of elections on Friday afternoon about the voters’ complaints.

“I spoke with Bruce Brown at the Illinois State Board of Elections,” Schweppe says. “He called me back about an hour later after speaking with the Rock Island County Clerk's office. He told me he suggested a full recalibration to fix the problem. He said it was a common problem and easy to fix.”

Kinney told the Times she recalibrated the machines on Friday, though the video above (taken days later, on Monday) suggests that did not fix the problem.

Others in Illinois, where early voting began on October 20, have claimed similar problems with electronic voting machines. One Republican state house candidate in Cook County claimed his attempt to vote for himself was initially registered as a vote for his Democratic opponent.

Appearing at a Boston rally for Democrat gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley on Friday, Hillary Clinton told the crowd gathered at the Park Plaza Hotel not to listen to anybody who says that “businesses create jobs.”

“Don’t let anybody tell you it’s corporations and businesses create jobs,” Clinton said.
“You know that old theory, ‘trickle-down economics,’” she continued. “That has been tried, that has failed. It has failed rather spectacularly.”

“You know, one of the things my husband says when people say ‘Well, what did you bring to Washington,’ he said, ‘Well, I brought arithmetic,’” Clinton said, which elicited loud laughs from the crowd.

Is this all the rave now? I'm not sure I could sign a waiver for this stuff:

McKamey Manor in San Diego, California isn't your usual haunted house, instead of sighing at pop-up ghosts you can see fairground operators smoking a cigarette behind, you're bound, gagged, drenched in blood and terrorised for four to seven hours.

Claiming to be the world's most extreme haunted house, it grinds down guests through sheer terror, force feeding them, riding them, shouting in their faces, shutting them in small boxes and much, much more.

Sound like the worst way to spend a night ever yes? Well apparently not, because there's 24,000 people on the waiting list.

All guests are required to sign a waiver before entering and are health checked to ensure they can ensure the stress of the ordeal.

One couple decided to go there straight after their wedding, because what better way to celebrate the joyous union of marriage than by having your heads put in cages full of snakes and being forced to eat rotten eggs?

The trailer caused a huge argument in the ever inflammatory YouTube comments section this month, when one viewer asked how guests could say a 'safe word' with their mouths taped up.

McKamey Manor dodged the question, but did provide some more enlightening info about its safety protocols:

"LOL...you're taking this MUCH to serious, but I do understand. When a person is selected to take the tour...and after they pass all my requirements, than the games begin. The folks who seek us out are true haunted house fans who no longer get scared at a typical "Boo" haunt. So all of them know exactly what the haunt is all about. They have followed us, and seen us on TV and have watched all the movies. So they really do know. But I still try to talk them out of it...but they never listen..lol. These folks want the "Live Your Own Horror Movie" experience. In all our years of running an extreme haunt...no guests have been injured. They think they will be...that's what get their blood going. Its like being on a roller coaster or some other thrill ride. Yes they sign waivers and are well warned. Ant they know that once they are in...there in no escape until the tour is completed. That's why (especially with the new haunt), I have to make sure they can physically handle this little adventure. What you have seen in the past videos is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to how it is now. Just imagine...only TWO guests take this massive tour at a time. That means they can expect to be going through stunt after stunt for at least 4 hours. How scary is that...and THEY LOVE IT! I'm also there every step of the way filming them and making sure they are safe. Safety is alway paramount. It's all a big mind game. We control everything. What they see, what they hear, what they smell etc. We are the puppet masters and they gladly come along for this unique one of a kind adventure. We have folks flying in form all around the world to take the tour. In October we have a couple from England coming all this way to get married and to go through the haunt. We also have a woman who is such a huge fan that she is spending her vacation just to come and see us. She's traveling from Kuwait! Those two will be in the movie called "Haunter The Movie" which has been filming for the last year or so. Soooooo, I hope this explains things a bit. We are just normal folks putting on the scariest and craziest home haunt anywhere. We do all this for the love of the fans, and because we have so much fun entertaining the folks. So please try not to worry...all is fine, and everyone is actually having the time of their lives. But I'm glad my movies freaked you out a bit...I guess that means I was successful...lol."
