So far a heck of a round. Last nights' overtime win was a nail biter. Get a nice 3 goal lead, blow it letting the stars score 4, get the tie back with 2 minutes to go. Hit overtime, hit the post, light the lamp!

Game 2 Recap

Game 3 of the Western Conference series is Wednesday night in Denver.

Avalanche lead the series 2-0 smile.gif

Another little interesting tidbit, Joe Sakic gets an NHL record 7 playoff overtime goals with the one last night, moving out of a tie with Richard at 6. ohmy.gif Kewl!

yea i must admit colorado is playing much better then i expected them to, i thought they would be lucky to win one against the "Stars" (if u wanna call them that) Turco certianly hasnt shown up but if the Avalanche hold on it certainly will be a good 2nd round matchup between them and the wings (yes i am saying the wings will win tongue.gif )

Last night, a tying goal from Brunette with less than a minute left. Tanguay finishes the game off shortly into the OT with a bank shot.

I am curious tho...for those being so surpirsed with the Avalanche performance...the Av's have been an elite team the 10 years they've been in the league, did people really think the loss of Forsberg would drop them into the bottom tier? I won't argue that it made no difference...but Sakic, Hejduk, Tanguay and Svatos aren't mystery names...and for defense the Av's smoke the competition in blocked shots. So is it a real feeling the av's lost something, or just a bit of jealousy?

The Avs have great offense, but seemed to be missing a great goalie and defense. Yes they have some good defenders, but they have not been playing great all year, Blake started off bad and got better as the season progressed. As for Goalies Jose has not done it and I thought with the layoff he would not be on top of his game, and Budaj is a rookie who has not captivated like other rookie goalies have. Looks like they are doing better than expected or their opponent is not living up to expectations.

The other side of that is Dallas always plays good defense and Turco seemed to play better, but they look terrible.

Missing a great goaltender, well can't argue that, but then Roy is the comparison many times, which can be a tough trail to follow...Theodore can play a better game and needs to thru the next rounds.

Defensively tho, there were really only 4 players who had minus numbers (May didn't play all that much, and Dowd's numbers are tainted by the hawks performance) still the team rated a +9, so although the av's scored a basket of goals, the defensive numbers turned out pretty good thru the regular season...

But now it is the playoffs, new season.

The game tonight will certainly be worth watching biggrin.gif

Well now that they lead 3-0, it is safe to say they're going on to face detroit (if we can win the next two games)..

yes definitiely should be a good 2nd rd matchup (cmon wings u cant lose to edmonton and your rivals and the avalanche)... and snowblink, i didnt think the avalanche were a bad team i just thought the stars were better and they definitiely had the most experience but they just have not shown up sad.gif but when detroit finally does play colorado, colorado will be fresh off a sweep and detroit will feel like they have played 8 or 9 games (with all the OT)... so i would be very very scared for Detroit

Well, Dallas got one back...and they deserved it. Av's didn't come with the fire to finish it off...maybe they liked those steaks in Dallas to much, had to go back for dinner laugh.gif

Those late starts can be tough. Since I usually watch the game previous at 5pm (for me) I know how that can go some nights after a long week. But great stuff in the playoffs.
