A little feature Ill try to update for the next 2 million days god willing! Today a piece of my childhood 1976 Topps Walter Payton RC Growing up in Quincy, a town equally split between Chicago fans and St Louis Fans , it was always tough to root for my lovable losers in Baseball.. The Cubbies and the perennially awful Bears. But that all change for the winter time of 1976 with the addition of a little guy wearing 34 from Jackson State. Sweetness was his nickname but I remember him simply as Nobody does it better. The first thing that impressed me on a sunday in September 1976 is that before he was rode out of bounds he always got a lick in! Hurdling the line of scrimmage, stretching that body out for one more yard..WOW. Franco harris was another rof my favorite backs but Walter was different. He was "sweetness"! After all those mediocre years Da bears finally put it together in 85 and won the bowl. Sad cause payton didn't get to score even if Fridge tried to carry him over the line. Never forgave Ditka for that. Then it seemed he broke the record and then he was gone forever and not just from football. My most vivid memory of a Payton game is one particular game against the Chiefs. He broke like 13 tackles on a run that included a hurdle, spin aroonie or two and a stiff arm. Hit or be hit, he did it all. Here is to you Walter Payton may you never be forgotten

With hockey season down to the last day I present to you from the minds of ITG This gorgeous duallie 2007/08 ITG Ultimate Tavares/Stamkos dual auto /gu #/24 Stamkos the #1 overall pick by the lightning in 2008 Tavares the #1 overall pick by the Isles in 2009 Both swatches are from a World Juniors Canada Jersey, Both players played for the Sarnia Sting leading up to their respective #1 picks I remember pack pulling this thinking someday this would be the crown jewel of my hockey collection. I think someday maybe now? Since posting the scan to my bucket it has become the #1 card asked for by other collectors in trade negotiations. I haven't seen one of these on the bay in at least six months. If both players ever put it together one year and head for a deep clash in the playoffs look out, or maybe Tavares takes the isles deep this year. Needless to say Dr Price was promoting Tavares from when he was a 14 year old in his Intl Ice product (I have that auto btw), imagine the thought process to create this dual in advance of what became! Stay tuned probably more hockey tomorrow! Lets GO BLUES!

Don't you love cards with dual or triple autos? Most don't carry as much value as a single signed card unless you have players who transcend the sport Like Bron/Jordan dual. How about a card with 29 signatures? Maybe 30 maybe 28 , I've never been sure. What else Ive never been sure of is who exactly signed it?! Some of the sigs look so similar.. well it was a teenie weenie signing space. Bryce harper nor Strasburg are on this card. Pedro Alvarez is though. Hopefully as more of these players work their way up the ranks , this card starts getting some more love. I pack pulled this from a UD National team set. This card was right on top, above the other cards like it was an afterthought! here is a roster so you can try and matchem up Pedro Alvarez INF So. Vanderbilt New York, NY Ryan Berry RHP Fr. day 6 a name from my youth Even though im out of shape today, I used to be a pretty get tennis player thru age 22 when I moved away and lost all my opponents. Ok I at least got seeded in the city tournament 4 years in a row. never beat a seed higher than me. But I was scrappy, had a good serve and was never afraid to rush the net. So todays card pays tribute to my youth Sport Kings Volume A Arthur Ashe Manufactured Patch 1/1 Nice simple card, not a big fan of Mfg Patches but for some reason I thought this was overly brilliant and commend Dr Price for his efforts. Ashe of course has tennis center named after him all over this land. First and only African American male to win Wimbledon in fact he was the only to win a grand slam title before Yannick Noah did a few years back. I remember watching Wimbledon in 75 as he just wasted Jimmy Connors he won the first 2 sets 6-1 6-1 I think and then Connors came back to win set 3 in a tiebreaker but It took everything Connors had and ashe finished him off like 6-3 or 6-4 maybe in the 4th set. I became a fan of his that day. His career was too short due to heart problems and he passed way too young from aids related pneumonia having contracted the horrible disease from blood transfusions or unsafe , unprotected stuff who really knows.

more youthful memories on my seventh birthday I remember my grandmother, who always bought me a couple of packs of cards at a place called shoppers fair, got two packs of 1969 topps tallboy basketball. I think I still have all those cards including a checklist with pencil check marks! But this remains my favorite to date Lew Alcindor, the UCLA superstar, drafted by the Bucks and took them to a world title with Oscar Robertson and bob dandrige. He would get dealt back to LA to play for the Lakers, converted to Muslim, changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, invented the skyhook and went on to have multiple world championships and at one time was the all time leader in scoring. Not to mention having a memorable cameo in Airplane as a co pilot. Roger over, over dunn..LOL Love the little kid scene who says something like my dad says your a slouch and Jabbar gives him the you run up and down the court for 40 minutes with lanier and chamberlain and Walton haning on you...

Its the running of the roses so lets show off a jockey Ron Turcotte who saddled Secretariat. I remember watching all three races that year on ABC's wide world of sports (that was how we got odd sporting events back then) I remember the race being over a few furlongs after the gate was open. That was how dominate Secretariat was. Turcotte's career ended tragically when he fell off a horse in the Belmont or Preakness and became disabled , a paraplegic actually.
