I was speaking with a member last night about doing a trade, and the conversation turned slightly bitter over Beckett pricing. How is it that Becketts online price guide differs from the March issue of Beckett? He showed me that the online price guide had this card @ $200, and every paperback issue including marchs has the card @ $250. This makes me question Beckett, and now im starting to see why most go by sale value. This causes me to have trust issues with Beckett on there pricing!

Lmk if anyone has any say on this, cause it surely puzzles me.

have have been told the same thing several times with the different pricing.

From what i understand the OPG is up to the minute pricing where the magazine is the price at the print date

That certainly is interesting. I think with the massive amount of cards in their database, though, they are bound to make a mistake sometime or the other. I think Beckett Value sure has its uses in that it is a guide, which is what it is intended to be. Many times, it is a good starting point and then one can work off of there.

In my experience, yes, the printed value and OPG value can differ. I don't know what sort of delays are experienced with the actual printing of their physical pricing guide, but that would be what I'd attribute it to.

Basically, as someone else put it, it's a guide. While I'd probably defer to the OPG pricing (as it can be updated daily), it's still just a guide, not a hard and fast rule.

So the OPG can change by the minute? My last 20 issues have this card @$250.. Now out of the Blue a Hofer just drops by $50? And for what reason? Most hofer autos usually hold there value, or go up... Still somethings fishy here with Becketts pricing.

It has something to do with the multiplier.

I own a 2005 Reflections Jose Reyes/David Wright dual autograph (red parallel) /99.

The magazine lists the set as having a 1X multiplier over the regular autograph, meaning it books $80 X 1 = $80.

However, the OPG shows the card as booking for $100.

I refuse, and always will refuse, to use any sort of price guide (ESPECIALLY Beckett) - unless an item cannot be found with current pricing/sale on eBay or other card sites like COMC, Zistle, and Sportlots.

Then again, I'm the type to trade a $100 (sale value) card for $50 (sale value) worth of stuff I -like-.

Like Robert said we should have been calm about it, and just compromised it at $225. But if it books $250, I would like to get that in return. And then he says its $200, and doesnt wanna give up a $250 card for it....... touchy situation.

More could have been said with a kind word and a gun than with just a kind word alone.

But yeah, prices should be a starting point for negotiations. And those prices could have been interpreted in an entirely different manner.

Publication has the card at $250.
OPG has the card at $200.
The median is $225.
However......

The OPG could also have been interpreted as the average of the published price vs the actual sale price of $150 - which would have brought the published price of $250 down to $200, therefore having the actual active selling price of $150. smile.gif

I'd grab the $200.

Heck, have a neutral 3rd party look it up on the OPG if you're unsure.

yea i just ran into this a few days ago. a guy had a ***1999 edgerrin james upper deck sp authentic excitement version #/250 *** books $200.00 ***

well on the OPG it books 30-low and 80-high! and going down?
he wouldn't trade it because it was to low.

but you win some lose some. i personally think that BV's are garbage! you card is only worth what someone will pay for it!! and that's the bottom line!

Always looking for Edgerrin James and Javarris James cards I need!

**MY WANTS**
-2007 topps tx superbowl ticket stub auto versions only. Base set of stubs is done!
-2001-2006 topps tix super tix superbowl ticket stub cards and auto version.
-Colts Super Bowl tickets from any Super Bowl they played in. Prefer full tickets but would be open to stubs as well. Only tickets from the Manning ERA!
-A Super Bowl ticket or stub from the AZ Cardinals and Steelers.
-Any full ticket or stub that has Edgerrin James on it!
-Edgerrin James- Mostly rarer stuff. Also odd ball type items.
-Javarris James- Mostly rarer stuff. Also odd ball type items.
-Any checklist that has Edgerrin or Javarris James name on it!
-Any cards of the actors from Married With Children.
-Ice-T auto- From Razor.
-Some of the Celebrity GU and autos. Mostly famous movie actors I like. Nothing super high end.

In my opinion beckett is completely worthless.

I just have to laugh at some of the ridiculous i have got from people who consider beckett to be the god of pricing.
Plus then there are the people who think bv=SV

Times change and right now bv is really not a sensible thing to use for trading.

I do not trading/sell or buy cards at this time

They didnt even price football then as It was being advertised for early the next year!
