I had started a facebook page for my collection, mostly to drive sales, but as it always is, it also drove someone to reach out to me to get rid of their collection. They offered to give it to me, but I had coached their son for a few years and didn't feel right to just take it so I offered to give them something for it after I looked at it for a few minutes.

Of course it had a lot of the mass produced cards from his dads collection. But I looked at it very quickly and saw a Boggs RC in a Lucite slab, a lot of pages, a box for a 2013 Topps set, and several hard card protectors. I pointed out the RC and was assured that there should be several more in there like that...so I liked the lot at that point. I had seen a couple of game used cards as well, but not of valuable players. But for having checked it out for a few minutes..I liked what I saw and gave them $80.

Took the lot home and went through it for several hours. No more decent rookie cards from the 80s...dang! The pages were full of early 90s junk. The hard card protectors held mid 90s Frank Thomas cards...ugh..Any insert card that would have been decent had bent corners. It became clear to me that the collection was mostly stripped. The HOFer and star cards were tough to find and not very valuable when I did find them. I started regretting the $80. Should have given them $30...

But the set was still there....it had been transferred to an album...but I quickly realized it had holes....cards had been pulled from the set.....it wasn't getting better....The Boggs RC was the best card BY FAR!!!

But I kept digging....200 loose pages of cards. There had to be something there....then I saw it....the one card they had missed....the one card that suddenly made the $80 worth it...

1993 SP Jeter RC, top center of a page...perfect condition...whew! After doing some searching I also found a Profar RC SP in the 2013....Won't make a lot of money on the lot unless I sell a boat load of the "quarter cards" which is tough since I have don't do shows and no one trades for them, but at least it ended up that I won't lose anything either!
