Good for you. These people are the lowest of the low. It would be great if, some day, they didn't receive a single bit of media coverage.

But with Libya,  the Big O decided it would be a better use of his time to go on vacation and have his Secratary tell the Nation that we jumped into a war!  Mind you,  this happened after he told reporters that he wasnt sending troops into Libya "On ground or in the Air!".
*

There was an informal discussion on Facebook by a local radio station on the subject of why people seem so angry these days. By far, the most common reason people gave was the lack of leadership at the highest level. The mideast is in turmoil, gas prices are soaring, the economy still #####, and all this guy can do is go on vacation or play golf? He spent more time explaining his NCAA picks than what his plan is for Libya!

You're right about Bush. Like him or loathe him, he always spoke to the country in an attempt to explain and/or reassure people and you always knew where he stood on an issue.

You were the one who brought up the topic of Obama and made comparisons to the perception of the Iraq War.  I was just running with that line of thought.

I figured but just wanted clarification. Hussein was ten time worse but since Bush was in office at the time...

At our secret Evil Rich Republican meetings (ok, it's really just playing cards at the neighbor's house), we sit around and talk about the unbelievable double standards going on right now. Most of our conversations start out with "Can you believe what would have happened if Bush had been president when this happened?" It really is an amazing thing to see.

When a similar question was posed during the Bush years, the answer was that Bush was doing it all for the oil. Maybe Obama's trying to raise his ailing poll numbers and prove to the world that he's not a wimp?

As far the the Libya problem,  I am watching it very closely and it is ugly.  Ghadaffi is a piece of work,  killing civilians (women and children) without any concern.  He ordered the fire bombing of an entire community because it was suspected that they were harbouring Rebels.

The U.N. gave him and Ultimatum:  Cease fire or We Fire!    He called the cease fire and broke it in the same breath!  Now he has two choices:  Fight until we capture him and try him for war crimes or fight until we kill him, because rest assured,  one of the two WILL happen!

Hmmm.....
This sounds oddly familiar. Where have we seen this before?
I guess it's all ok now that Obama's at the helm.

Tell y'all what . . .

When less than 1% of the population of this fine
country feels that they have something to lose
in Afghanistan, Iraq or any other warfare that
our duly elected Republican (yes, I do blame y'all)
congress has in mind, I'd like to inquire . . .

Why are we there?

Iraq is, was and always will be an insipid and
purely personal (Thank you, Mr. Bush, Cheney,
Wolfowitz, et. al.) adventure, 4,000 body bags
and 7 years later we are still there.

Afghanistan started off as a justifiable and righteous
cause. Bid Laden however, is evidently alive and well.
10 years and countless deaths, casualties and amputations
since, we have over 100,000 American troops there.
Obviously, we failed. That, or there was never a defined mission . . .

Your call on that one.

I can't get folks that think like me to get out in
the streets in order to get our nations finest back
home. It's pathetic.

Seems "me and mine" are more
important than an ideal.

I am truly ashamed of my country. You have no idea
of how painful that is for me to write.

And you still blame Republicans? Really?

Aaron-
That was a very well worded response and aside from some idealogical differences, I agree with you. My beef isn't with private unions nearly as much as the public ones and not as much with the workers as with the bosses. Although we all know about the "union worker mentality". I have a crazy left lesbian friend who works at a public library in Ohio. One of her co-workers sleeps at her desk during the day, plays on facebook, listens to her ipod, and still gets raises. The girl just laughs and says "What are they going to do? Fire me? Ha Ha!" All the while my friend busts her butt to do a good job but is starting to ask herself why bother? That menatlity is eventually contagious to even the best worker. A union may be good for someone's paycheck but it's lousy for productivity and quality.

When there is collective bargaining among public unions and politicians, you and I don't have a voice at the table. We pay their saleries and have no say in the negotiations. How can that be? If something's not right, then it needs to change.

How a teacher can be paid so much more than a police officer is beyond me. Most cops do their jobs really well. My wife, mother, step-father, countless in-laws, step-mother, and myself (sometimes) have all been teachers at various levels. We talk about it often and all know that fewer and fewer teachers are getting into the profession every year because they have a love for teaching. It's all about the bennies. My wife and I know of a situation right now where a pitiful teacher should be fired but isn't due to the red tape. That's just wrong and if it weren't for the union, he'd be gone.

QUOTE(pspstatus @ Feb 26 2011, 11:57 PM)
Laws regarding pay rates, working hours, working safety standards, job security, etc.  Unions are a major reason that we have these things in the first place.
*

I understand unions were the reason many of those things got started but with only 13%-14% of the population in a union, they don't have near the power they once did yet they sure are loud and disruptive. My neighbor is a recently retired UAW member and a flaming liberal but even he knows the unions are a joke now and hurt companies. (He says that now that "he got his".) He set up robots in the morning on an auto assembly line then watched DVDs the rest of the day. He said he was paid to sit around in case the line went down. My brother-in-law gets paid triple time on holidays to sit around and play cards at a major automotive supplier. They both say there's nothing management can do about it. And you wonder why a car costs so much?

Unions are only good for the members - until they lose their job. What happens when the uneducated guy on an assembly line loses his $100,000/year job? Lots of bad things happen when the salary for a job far outweighs what the job really should pay. Unions have overreached for too long and now they're paying the price. That's why their membership was dropping every year (until Obama took office). After he's gone, it will likely continue downward. Public opinion has turned against unions and only seems to get worse when they see things like what's happening in Madison. People don't want to see a teacher with a $76,000 salery whining when unemployment is sky high.

And then there's the socialist/communist ties. The permit for this Saturday's union rally in D.C. was supposedly obtained by the International Socialist Organization according to theblaze.com.

Life's all about choices. I was offered a job in the school system a few years ago. When I found out I HAD to join the union and pay dues which ALWAYS go to support Democrat candidates, I refused the job. The folks understood but said there was nothing they could do about it. It was my choice and I can live with it.

My take on it is the protests started over food shortages and inflation. However, now Hamas and other fundamental Islamists are flooding across the borders through the Sinai peninsula. Subsequently, the protests are becoming more violent.

Side commentary: Mubarak isn't the greatest leader in the world, but Egypt has nuclear capability and I'm not sure allowing him to be ousted is in our best interests when taken into account the allegations that Iran funded muslim groups are flooding into the country.

On the other hand, this seems like a classic case of divide and conquer. Let's see how many directions we can pull the American Military before they falter.

If the allegations are true, perhaps the Iranian President is familiar with this piece of wisdom: "Never let a crisis go to waste."

Where have I heard that before?
