Im sorry. This is total BS. all they were trying to do is protect our borders from drugs and now the drug runner get full ammunity to testify that he was shot in the butt because the was running from them after he was busted with 700 punds of pot and the second time it was 1000 pounds.
they should go to a church and claim sanctuary like that Illegal woman did..

Blame this incident, partly, on the misguided war on drugs.

I say blame this incident, wholly, ont the fact that the U.S. will let a criminal act as if he should have the rights of the masses. We too often hear of the culprit turning the blame around and the enforcers getting prosecuted. A real poor realism of our striving for "rights of everyone".

Everyone has inalienable rights, including 'crminials'. With 1 in 136 american citizens in jail (and growing), a whole lot of people would have the rights taken away. In fact, there is a growing movement to let felons again have the right to vote.

In regard to these agents, as I understand it is was a case of using excessive force with the deadly weapon.

My guess is it is likely that Mr. Bush will pardon these agents.

Yes they do have rights. The question is 'Should they have everyone else's?'
The answer is no.

Yes there are a lot of people in prison. Therefore, is it more acceptable? No, it isn't. We teach our children that it isn't right to do wrong just because many people do. At least I hope we all teach them that.

And finally, I certainly hope he pardons them. The only shame is that they should not need to be 'Pardoned' for doing their job.

Just the way I was brought up, and the way I still believe.

I'm of the persuasion that not all laws are just. There are many laws in our past that speak to this truth (i.e. segregation as one example). There are many people that are currently in prison that IMHO shouldn't be there in the first place (i.e. minor drug offenses as one example). I teach my children to question the basis of all laws and to make their decisions accordingly.

Blindly and unquestioningly following laws leads to tyranny and opression.

sheesh-

Yer half right.

All >>AMERICAN CITIZENS<< have inalienable rights. These drug runners, being non-US citizens, should not have access to ANY rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

Had they been US citizens, then yes they should be afforded the same rights, including a presumption of innocence, that you or I should expect. But the eagerness of some to grant non-citizens rights to which it was never intended they should have is- or should be- disturbing.

While I agree that non-US citizens do not enjoy the same rights as US citizens, does (or did - past tense) not this country believe that there are certain rights that are afforded to ALL people around the world regardless of where they are from? I thought that we used to attempt to export the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and champion those rights around the world. Is this no longer the case in the minds of Republicans?

The fact that these people broke the laws of the United States of America to get here should cause one to question why they are entitled to the same rights as US citizens, being that their very presence here makes them criminals.

That being the case, I wholeheartedly agree that they should receive all the benefits of our very liberal criminal justice system....once they are arrested and placed into the deportation process of course.

Do you know that there are huge portions of several southwestern US states that have either no emergency medical care at their hospitals or indeed NO hospitals at all? Illegal aliens have been taught, in part by the Mexican government, how to acquire various benefits that were previously afforded only to US citizens, such as emergency health care for indigents at no cost to them whatsoever. Hospitals can't survive with no income from such a large percentage of their patients and so they either close their emergency rooms or close entirely.

It is estimated that illegal immigrants cost California some $80 BILLION dollars a year and return very little to the economy. Arizona, New Mexico and Texas are similarly under siege.

I've nothing at all against LEGAL immigration. Unless you're an indian, you're the product of immigration. But what is so evil about requiring people to play by the rules and follow the proces to obtain legal immigration status? Sure, maybe you can make the point that the process takes far too long and is too expensive (and I tend to agree)- but that doesn't make ignoring the process the right answer. If it's broke, fix it! Millions, if not billions, of people would love to come here...but we haven't the room or the resources for all of them, much as we might wish otherwise. Fpr those who refuse to wait their turn, I have zero sympathy.

You never aim to wound, you aim to kill. As you now believe. Most states have laws that if a person was to B & E your home it is your duty to walk away and let them be. What a frockin crock of fecal matter. Remember you live in the land of PC. You wouldn't want to offend anyone.

I'd rather be Surfing.

That, and this piece I think sum up that they got what they deserved:
"Being a United States border patrol agent is not, a license to shoot people it is especially not a license to shoot unarmed suspects who are running away from you," said Johnny Sutton, U.S. Attorney for the Western Texas District.

It's one thing to shoot back at those shooting at you, quite another in this case.. wink.gif

They were convicted, so there must have been evidence supporting the identity of the shooter...unless their attorneys were really that bad...
