QUOTE(cajunfuji @ Oct 21 2006, 08:20 AM) I say blame this incident, wholly, ont the fact that the U.S. will let a criminal act as if he should have the rights of the masses. We too often hear of the culprit turning the blame around and the enforcers getting prosecuted. A real poor realism of our striving for "rights of everyone". Everyone has inalienable rights, including 'crminials'. With 1 in 136 american citizens in jail (and growing), a whole lot of people would have the rights taken away. In fact, there is a growing movement to let felons again have the right to vote. In regard to these agents, as I understand it is was a case of using excessive force with the deadly weapon. My guess is it is likely that Mr. Bush will pardon these agents.

The fact that these people broke the laws of the United States of America to get here should cause one to question why they are entitled to the same rights as US citizens, being that their very presence here makes them criminals.
That being the case, I wholeheartedly agree that they should receive all the benefits of our very liberal criminal justice system....once they are arrested and placed into the deportation process of course.
Do you know that there are huge portions of several southwestern US states that have either no emergency medical care at their hospitals or indeed NO hospitals at all? Illegal aliens have been taught, in part by the Mexican government, how to acquire various benefits that were previously afforded only to US citizens, such as emergency health care for indigents at no cost to them whatsoever. Hospitals can't survive with no income from such a large percentage of their patients and so they either close their emergency rooms or close entirely.
It is estimated that illegal immigrants cost California some $80 BILLION dollars a year and return very little to the economy. Arizona, New Mexico and Texas are similarly under siege.
I've nothing at all against LEGAL immigration. Unless you're an indian, you're the product of immigration. But what is so evil about requiring people to play by the rules and follow the proces to obtain legal immigration status? Sure, maybe you can make the point that the process takes far too long and is too expensive (and I tend to agree)- but that doesn't make ignoring the process the right answer. If it's broke, fix it! Millions, if not billions, of people would love to come here...but we haven't the room or the resources for all of them, much as we might wish otherwise. Fpr those who refuse to wait their turn, I have zero sympathy.

QUOTE(Sheesh @ Oct 20 2006, 08:15 PM) Blame this incident, partly, on the misguided war on drugs. That, and this piece I think sum up that they got what they deserved: "Being a United States border patrol agent is not, a license to shoot people it is especially not a license to shoot unarmed suspects who are running away from you," said Johnny Sutton, U.S. Attorney for the Western Texas District. It's one thing to shoot back at those shooting at you, quite another in this case..

QUOTE(racedraper @ Oct 25 2006, 02:38 PM) yeah but tell you the truth we never heard that they used balistics test to make sure it was the border agents weapon that struct him in the butt and not someone else. They were convicted, so there must have been evidence supporting the identity of the shooter...unless their attorneys were really that bad...
