These posts have a lifetime that will surpass all of ours. Your great, great grandchildren could read these in some far off archive. Armed with that scary thought, I'm going to make a vow today to do exactly what the title says. I am as guilty, if not more so, than anyone of letting my fingers function while my brain lags. If you are posting in anger, retribution or just plain meanness, take a moment to realize the power of the written word. In this age of instant gratification and communication, it is sometimes difficult to focus on the future ramifications of ones immediate thoughts. The younger members must know that their reputations are being built here in their own words. You will grow to value that reputation. Take what you write here seriously, rest assured, that someone will. The adult members have to keep in mind that the examples that we set are as permanent as these posts. It is a large responsibility and should be treated as such. I will T-H-I-N-K before I post. Collect Hard!, RGBII

Fortunately, we do have a fallback that Bob has put into place for us. When cooler heads prevail, the almighty EDIT button can do a lot, but just like when you say something in life, once its out there, you can never FULLY retract it.
Great post Richard! Tom

Richard, Great post, what you said shouldn't have to be said. You're absolutely right and I have been as guilty of it as anyone else on here. I think we all understand that there are days where we are frustrated, and I think that we all know that there are certain members of this board, or any other board for that matter, that just drive us absolutely insane from time to time. I agree that I am confrontational at times, and there's probably nothing I can do to change that, it's something that is in my blood. But I absolutely agree with you 100% that everyone, including me, can improve their posts if the sit back and take a deep breath before posting. As bad as some of mine have been at times....they would have been a lot worse if I hadn't checked myself a little. KHarmon

QUOTE(bob_TCC @ Oct 12 2007, 11:31 AM) Isn't Richard's advice applicable to all environments? -Bob i'm sure it is, I just don't see why it needs to be made an issue. that is why i asked if there have been some problems with this recently. For the most part, i haven't had much, if any, confrontations on this site, and the posts i read generally are not ones that could even provoke an incident that would need attention. I realize that there are political posts and others of that nature that pop up now and then, but then again, what are those posts doing on a site like this anyway. Topics like religion and politics are only going to cause problems and should be expected to draw some questionable content.

Just b/c you personally haven't had an issue w/ someone here, doesn't mean someone else hasn't. And maybe Richard has seen something you haven't. An occasional reminder to be respectful doesn't hurt anyone. We're not trying to be mean. We just want this to be a fun place for everyone.
