QUOTE(bob_TCC @ Nov 17 2005, 11:08 AM) Based on the activity in our Box Breaks forum, I think I probably already know the answer to this one, but... Do any of you have unopened packs and boxes as part of your collection? If so, what do you have? Why have you left it unopened? -Bob Very little, what I gets I opens!

I have a few hundred unopened packs as part of my collection. The oldest pack is 1970 baseball thru 1995 Topps baseball and other brands of baseball packs up to 1995. I also have some test issue packs that I bought off of Ebay and from card shows and stuff I saw on the counter at convenience stores. I also have have a few vending boxes that I plan to open sooner or later to build sets from. I don't plan to open any of the older packs. They are just fun for me to have around. The times I did open the older packs I got some ok luck with pulls. They are soooo tempting to open. Augh ! I hear them calling me now !

Is it smart to not open certain things so that the value might be much greater in years to come? It seems reasonable to me, but I agree that the urge is hard to resist. The only things I can think of that I haven't opened are a 2005 UD Football Rookie Premiere Box which contains 30 rookies from this year and also has a special insert card in the box. So that kind of defeats the purpose since you know what is inside, although the value can increase depending on how the rookies do as a class. The other thing I haven't opened is a 2005 Topps Football Rack Pack with an Alex Smith RC on it. So far he has sucked though, but maybe he will turn into Joe Montana in SF and about 25 years from now I will be able to make a huge profit on it. I am not sure it will still be unopened by then though...there are still a lot of other cards in there I don't know about!

I stopped buying unopened packs to put into my collection, because like a lot of people have been saying for a long time there's just too much stuff around. If I was going to start collecting them again. I would save and buy vintage graded packs. I heard that PSA is going to start grading packs. I still buy packs once in a great while if I see something unique that catchs my eye. I think the last pack I bought was the Topps pack wars. I didn't buy the packs hoping they would go up in value. They are just tempting to have.
