The Official BKB Box Break Club - July 09

Introduction

Hey guys and gals, we're back and ready for another month. Last month, we went big for our 2 year anniversary break and hit it big. Mike Lindegarde was the big winner, pulling (2) Lebron autos. We had a bunch of other nice hits also, as we pulled a Bird and Garnett for Kingfisher. Booth9919 received a Sweet Derrick Rose Quad Gu/Rc of Auto also. We also had a bunch of nice autos and patches.

How it Works (Official Rules)

Each member pays $50 ($52 if paying via PayPal). That covers about $500 in boxes, shipping, and supplies. You get one team (you cannot take a team that has already been taken) of your choice. The remaining 20 teams go to the members via a draft. This gives you a total of three teams. Every single card pulled out of a box that has a player from one of your three teams goes to you. The box breaks are done via a video break, so there is no question as to what was pulled.

Fees are due by the 15th. The boxes are ordered and the draft begins as soon as all fees are collected. As soon as the draft completes and the boxes are in, the video breaks are done. The cards are then shipped out by the box breaker as soon as the results have been posted. We decide as a group what boxes to break each month.

I've got the money I made from selling cards still sitting in PayPal. I was lucky enough to find a job quick enough that I ended up not needing that money.

How it Works (Official Rules)

It looks like the only new products this month are Ultimate and Exquisite. Odds are both will get bumped back (I don't have insider info, that just seems to be how UD does things).

I think Ultimate is basically 1 hit for $100. I'm not sure that's a good way to go.... I'm not sure what to do this month.

What do ya'll want to bust. The first Panini products won't be out until August and their first product will be Prestige basketball. I'm all for Chronology again. If we want to do a Topps product, Topps Signature hasn't been that bad. We can re-visit Signature again. Please lmk.

I think Chronology is a solid choice. For $145 it's a solid break. I also agree that Signature isn't bad at just under $90 a box. Should we dig for some old products?

I think that that's a great idea for this month Mike. It looks like we are still going to have three companies to choose from this year after all. According to Blowout's site, UD is releasing at least (4) 2009-10 between now and September, and Topps is releasing (2) 2009-10 releases during that time also. It looks like Panini has signed exclusive contracts with (5) players who include: Blake Griffin (Oklahoma), Tyler Hansbrough (UNC), Jordan Hill (Arizona), Brandon Jennings (Lottomatica Virtus Roma,Italy), and Hasheem Thabeet (UCONN).

I like the success we had with black and premier and chronology also I would be up for another box of topps signature.

also what about trying Radiance, I know we have seen some crappy breaks but have also seen alot of nice ones. I think we should give it a shot

my problem with Radiance is that i think it looks like crap. i don't actually want those cards. couple that with the bad breaks/reviews and i'm not too eager to give it a go.

Personally I would love to break a box of exquisite, but I dont think that would work for this month as I believe it comes out at the end of the month,


so if we did topps sig and chronology thats 240 what can we get in the 260 range.

also when does spgu come out for this year

What about 2007-08 Bowman Sterling. It wasn't a bad product, and the cards book fairly well. There are a ton of nice cards in that set. 18 hits for $190.

good point on the redemptions. what could have been a great card from topps will most likely end up being a crap auto from signature.

i know we keep doing the same products, but until the new stuff starts to role out, i think the products we've been doing are our best options.

I know that Oden is the best Rc in Sterling but there are a bunch of Legend autos that are nice. and a bunch of nice duals (Which we would have to random most likely).

I looked at some breaks of Ultimate... looks like a huge gamble. For $90 you could end up with just a mult-jersey card. I like the design, but I'm not a fan of the packaging.

I think the price will fall pretty quickly. It could be a good break in a month or two.

i'm just going to throw this out there... what about making this an every other month break for a while?

with the off season and slow economy there doesn't seem to be a ton of interest. there are a few of us that are here every month, but maybe this would be easier to fill on a bi-monthly basis.

Guys, we could do this you all want to. I have also talked with Sinatraking about combining this group along with Brandon's basketball group. Maybe we can explore the idea of doing that so we can keep it going every month. There are members in both groups and are different, so if we can't fill one then we can maybe fill the combined group break.

Once again the draft will be held in the thread and is a snake draft. This means that if you have the 1st pick then youwon't get to pick until the 20th pick again,and so on and so on. The 24 hour rule will be in effect in order to keep the draft rolling. The 24 hr. rule is that you have 24 hrs. from the time that your pick comes up to make your selection. If you fail to do so then you will fall to the last spots in the draft and everybody will move up one spot.

Proxy lists of teams can be sent via PM to myself and I'll make a selection for you if you cannot make it.

this is without question my last month with two slots. the lakers go to the next person.

i'm debating whether or not i can stay in the group at all. with the new house i've got other things i should spend money on. i'm just worried that once i let the cavaliers go i'll never get them back.

I did a preview of both 2009-10 Prestige and 2009-10 Topps. At the time I wrote the preview I thought Prestige was due out in October and it looks like Topps is due out late August.

I don't think Panini can release a licensed product until October due to the way the licenses work.

I heard that Prestige is coming out at the end of the month Early next month but not in time for this break, But Exquisite will be ready. Would we be up for a break of this. I know its only five cards but with sp game used ans sp sig edition not coming and Panini not coming out till next moth and ud draft edition looking horrible this is the only new product to come out. I would be up for it, Or do the same thing for aug as we have been doing the last few months. But switch it up a little maybe try black again if we can find it cheaper. Try something Other than chronology, I am open for almost anything. Lets get some other opinions and Talk about it tonight

I won't be in the break next month, but I suppose I can still share my opinion. As long as everyone in the group is okay with not getting anything next month, Exquisite could be fun to watch. I say everyone because each person has to be ready to get nothing since there would only be five cards.

The same break month after month gets old, but this just isn't a good time to be a basketball collector. Even once Panini takes over there still won't be a lot of new products rolling out the door.

I would love to do Exquisite, but I'm not sure if everybody would be up for it. Right now @ Blowout Exquisite is $625. I'm researching boxes right now to see what we can break to change up the monotomy.

As for the higher end stuff from 2008-09 UD premier is up to $275 @ D&A, and Black is up to $310 @ D&A. D&A does have these combo deals with 3-4 boxes that maybe we can do also. I'm still up for 07-08 Bowman Sterling also. According to D&A 2009-10 SP Game Used comes out on 8-19-09, so that's a possibility for next month if it doesn't get pushed back.
