QUOTE(RGBII @ Feb 18 2011, 09:50 PM) I agree, it sets a precedent for any and all narcissists of Scott Walker's ilk to believe that they can trash the rights of folks to unionize in order to stabilize the balance between workers and their employers.
Collect Hard!, RGBII as a state worker in my state this is what i fear, most times one state does something like this then many follow

QUOTE(ffman @ Feb 18 2011, 04:31 PM) Indeed. Bumping this up so more people can see this. Over the past few days I have begun to see some of the games some Republicans play. You should say games politicians will play. This instance is a republican but this is not an illness linked to one side of the isle. You know the sick irony is there are republicans that are against what his is doing.. Unfortunately a precedent will be set..
I am hunting for the following:(Gu/Au)- NYY: Jeter, Mattingly, vintage and HOF Yankees -If you know me anything is possible but you have to know the secret stuff I will bite on.

I'm not a Republican or Democrat, but to be honest I see these "games" more and more out of the Republicans these days now that they have power and are on the offensive. Examples: This little tactic by Walker. The always-growing Republican call for less government - unless they want the government doing something that supports their ideas. The rallying cry this or that is "not what our founding fathers would have wanted".....well, guess what - our founding fathers supported slavery and did not give women equal rights.

Not disputing that but seems the games are played by whatever party is in power regardless of timeframe or agenda.. The topics change but the party agendas stay the same

The rallying cry this or that is "not what our founding fathers would have wanted".....well, guess what - our founding fathers supported slavery and did not give women equal rights. Again it is the normal eb and flow.. Inherently Republicans want smaller government on the whole and democrats believe in bigger government on the whole (Of course minor deviations on each side during specific instances)

QUOTE(pspstatus @ Feb 26 2011, 11:57 PM) Laws regarding pay rates, working hours, working safety standards, job security, etc. Unions are a major reason that we have these things in the first place. I understand unions were the reason many of those things got started but with only 13%-14% of the population in a union, they don't have near the power they once did yet they sure are loud and disruptive. My neighbor is a recently retired UAW member and a flaming liberal but even he knows the unions are a joke now and hurt companies. (He says that now that "he got his".) He set up robots in the morning on an auto assembly line then watched DVDs the rest of the day. He said he was paid to sit around in case the line went down. My brother-in-law gets paid triple time on holidays to sit around and play cards at a major automotive supplier. They both say there's nothing management can do about it. And you wonder why a car costs so much? Unions are only good for the members - until they lose their job. What happens when the uneducated guy on an assembly line loses his $100,000/year job? Lots of bad things happen when the salary for a job far outweighs what the job really should pay. Unions have overreached for too long and now they're paying the price. That's why their membership was dropping every year (until Obama took office). After he's gone, it will likely continue downward. Public opinion has turned against unions and only seems to get worse when they see things like what's happening in Madison. People don't want to see a teacher with a $76,000 salery whining when unemployment is sky high. And then there's the socialist/communist ties. The permit for this Saturday's union rally in D.C. was supposedly obtained by the International Socialist Organization according to theblaze.com. Life's all about choices. I was offered a job in the school system a few years ago. When I found out I HAD to join the union and pay dues which ALWAYS go to support Democrat candidates, I refused the job. The folks understood but said there was nothing they could do about it. It was my choice and I can live with it.
