Well, I did it again. A few weeks ago I posted a bunch of 2002 Sweet Spot pack pulls that I had gotten at Toys R Us, and as some remember I got absolutely butchered. 28 packs, I received no autos (seeded 1 in 12) and hardly any game used. These came in the plastic packs (the correct terminology escapes me right now), and it was suggested that these packs are searched. And that very well could be.
So what do I do? Well yesterday I went to my soon to be closing Toys R Us and bought 79 (yes 79) of the same type of blister
packs, this time 2004 Upper Deck Playball. Originally priced at $2.99 per pack, these were marked down to $1.25. And here is how I did...
Set size is 232 cards, the last 100 beings SPs of varying quantities. There are parallels for only the first 132 (non SP) cards.
Blue parallel: 1 in 6 packs, should have pulled 13 or 14, actual pulls- 16

Silver Die Cut parallel #d to 175: inserted about 1 per box, should have gotten 3, actual pulls-1
Mike Sweeney
Home Run Heroics insert (very thick, very misleading for you pack searchers): inserted about 1 per box, should have gotten 3, actual pulls- 3
Hideki Matsui, Bill Mueller, Willie McCovey
Rookie Portfolio shortprints #d to 2004, no odds given but local hobby shop guy said there were one or two per box (on a side note, how funny is it to bust packs at your local card store that you just bought someplace else?). So
should have pulled 5, actual pulls- 7. Anybody ever hear of any these guys? Every one of them is a pitcher...
Tim Bausher, Scott Dohman, Alec Zumwalt, Mike Johnston, Brandon Medders x 2; Jamie Brown
Classic Combos shortprints #d to 1999, no odds given but local hobby shop guy said there was one per box. So should have pulled 3, actual pulls- 9
Paul Lo Duca & Hideo Nomo; Derek Jeter & Alfonso Soriano x 2; Joe DiMaggio & Mickey Mantle; Bobby Abreu & Jim Thome; Edgar Renteria, Alex Rodriguez & Albert Pujols; Joe DiMaggio & Ted Williams; Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle & Ted Williams; Mark Teixeira, A Rod, Michael Young & Rafael Palmeiro

Jerry Hairston Jr #d 10 of 15
Jeff Kent #d 12 of 15 (jersey number!)
Autographs: 1 in 24 packs, should have pulled 3, actual pulls- 3
Anybody ever hear of these giys? Frank Brooks, Justin Huisman, and Jason Frasor
Game Used: overall odds 1 in 12 packs; should have pulled 6 or 7, actual pulls 3
Josh Beckett Artists's Touch Jersey #d /250
Josh Beckett Apparael Collection Jersey with pinstripe
Hideki Matsui Tools of the Stars game used bat
note: the two Beckett jersey cads were pulled out of back-to-back packs.
Well, didn't do nearly as bad, although the lack of game used bothers me. Did have a good time bustin' packs though.
Hope to have a live case break of 2004/2005 Hoops Basketball this afternoon, as long as UPS is good to me... we'll see...
