"Baseball players will take anything. If you had a pill that would guarantee a pitcher 20 wins but might take five years off his life, he'd take it" MLB pitcher Jim Bouton about drug use in the Major Leagues... quoted in 1969.I vow to no longer purchase any product that features sticker autographs...If your user name is this color I'm afraid I'll have to pass on any proposed transactions at this time.

Michael, Gold Label that was one of the prettiest cards ever produced. I collected the hockey as my favorite, but did pick up some of the other sports just because of the look. My only complaint with it was the over-paralleling with the class 1, 2, 3 and the black, silver, and red labels.

QUOTE(northicehero99 @ Feb 23 2015, 10:11 AM) Michael, Gold Label that was one of the prettiest cards ever produced. I collected the hockey as my favorite, but did pick up some of the other sports just because of the look. My only complaint with it was the over-paralleling with the class 1, 2, 3 and the black, silver, and red labels. You know, I really wasn't bothered with the parallels mainly because they featured different pictures, at least in the 1998 set....

First off, I'm loving this topic. Late 90's / early 00's - the golden age of inserts and parallels! I agree, 1998/9 Topps Gold Label was one of the sharpest sets ever made. Never owned a red label card but always wanted to. Here are a few of my favorites. #1. Essential Credentials. These have to be THE prettiest cards ever made. When you see one in person, its like a gem shining in your hand. The 1998 set was my favorite, but 1997, 1999+ also had essential credentials. For '98, these landed less than one per case. The 'NOW' parallel version is bright pink and purple, which works great with the acetate of course. I recently pulled my third one, a Jim Thome #/68. #2. I was (still am) a Pacific junkie. Too bad they went out of business after that Manny Ramirez corked bat card. Racked up hundreds if not thousands of their reward points from pack wrappers back in the day. 1999 Paramount was sold at my local K-Mart and I remember grabbing a lot of packs from there. The holo-X parallels are very eye-catching. Plus, I collected Maddux. Loved these parallels. #3. 1999 Bowman Chrome International Refractors. The sweet photography, neat backgrounds, and my favorite Bowman Chrome design of all time. Numbered to 100, these cards look amazing in hand. #4. 1999 Fleer Mystique Destiny. Love the entire '99 Mystique set, and the refractor quality of this insert set makes these cards shine. Gotta dig the serial number stamped on the front. #5. 1998 Upper Deck Tape Measure Titans Gold. Again, serial number proudly stamped on the front. Gorgeous gold leaf border which contrasts so great against the bright red background of the card. This set was interesting, different, and featured some great photography. This one is another piece of my old Braves collection. Thank you for looking! And I hope others continue to share their favorites.

Pacific Paramount 1998-99 in hockey was one of my favorites. The base cards weren't flashy, but it was a nice base set. The parallels were also cool in copper, emerald, and silver, as well as the holo versions which were neat. Ex was another favorite of mine however they did not do much of it in hockey. It is a shame that the hobby has gone to making packs of 4-5 cards all hit with no base. I also hate the exclusive deals as it doesn't foster inventive designs. When there is competition, vendors have to compete to make you want their product, without it they give you what they think you want.
