It's been confirmed that Derek Boogaard was found dead in his apartment last night, and the autopsy will be conducted today or tomorrow.

Personally, this saddens me deeply, because the Boogey Man was my favorite player, even though I'm a canes fan. I loved the way he was such a gentle giant to everyone he met, including the ones he beat. He always had that mysterious smile on the ice, and the teddy bearish smile off the ice, which made him such a fan favorite, and my favorite player.

Seems he was in the NHL/PA drug abuse/ behaviorial assistance program at the time. I don't know if brain damage is the whole reason anymore, but I suspect it has to do with the concussion and a possible pain medication addiction... But I'm no neurologist.
