They have both been that low for a while. Makes no sense how a star auto like that is so low. Guess it is the way of the hobby, if you are not a "next one" rookie, you don't matter, no matter how many cups you hoist.

there were 17 releases for toews/kane rookie year

let us just say that the average # of autos per release was 300

that is 5100 autos available

now lets say that the number of autos of the player drops in half for each year but because they are a superstar, they still appear in every release so that is 150 per product @ 17 , that is 2550 more autos per year.

In 3 years time thats 10,200 autos
in 6 years 17,850
in 9 years 25,500

And I truly believe I have underestimated the volume from the players rookie year when you count parallels and such. Heck just spx rookies autos would be 999 not counting parallels and insert autos not considered a true RC!

Staggering #'s in my opinion

I agree there is a lot of overproduction, but I think this also has to do with the new collecting market of collecting whats hot. Everyone is chasing the newest and greatest rookies, meanwhile 90% of them won't do anything even worth noting. It is just like the old stars too, only a few really hold their value like Gretzky, the others are so cheap it is almost not worth opening a box, when you can buy their auto for what the box costs or less most times.

1 for set builders and kids OPC and platinum combined
1 for series like ud 1 and 2
1 for high end like the cup

Yeah, but then they would just overproduce the heck out of those three sets and they would be as collectable as Pro-Set.

Probably not, they would raise the prices or lower the number of packs per boxes to keep their margins super high.
