QUOTE(aceecards @ Apr 11 2012, 09:30 AM) But id say the harper SV outweighs the Jordan alone at this point. Everything else he is getting is just clean ups in aisle 3 I don't know anything about Harper, but I do know there is too much put into whosits and wanna-bes who more than likely never become what is professed ala Quinn, Daigle, etc, etc, etc. If he is trading to flip then it makes sense, if trading for future value I would hang onto the Jordan and spend the money having it graded. Even if not a great grade at least that would prove authenticity. Speculators have killed the collecting hobby, their interest in making a buck caused card companies to over-hype the next one and start making rookies shortprints, etc.

QUOTE(aceecards @ Apr 11 2012, 11:42 AM) Bryce Harper may be a wannabe.. but he was on the cover of SI at age 16 and I was strictly judging by fliiping value.. Im a collector and I would never let a pack pulled authentic Jordan Rookie go for a Flip it type price Was not judging your choice, just stating my frustration with how this hobby has gone from being about collecting to being about "what its worth!" Disappointing year after year to see guys hyped and overpriced compared to guys whose talent is written in the HOF and history. Rookies cards more expensive than Lemeiux, Marino, Montana, etc. rookie cards.

Oh I absolutely concur.. but those rookie card prices are just flaming stars that come settling back to earth no matter what they do in the arena. Its just that initial rocket burn in the quest to be the first to have the card and what some folks are willing to pay to be the first or only possessor of the card. Believe me chasing HOFers autos and GU for the last decade , Ive seen countless times how much folks are willing to trade to get that new rookie high ender. My attitude for youngster has always been , if I pull one from apack , Great.. but I wont buy one on the open market! (that is why i still do not have a bryce harper auto)

QUOTE(IowaCubs1 @ Apr 13 2012, 01:33 PM) I'm apparently ruining the hobby because I collect baseball prospects. And no, it's fun for me to watch cards go up in value. Not sure if this was aimed at my posts, but if so you misunderstood my post. If you want to trade for prospects go ahead it is your card and your choice. I would not however, because I feel prospects today are way over-valued for having not proven that they can produce at the pro level. Just way too many busts that were supposed to be superstars, whose cards have garnered higher prices initially (higher than legendary rookie cards) and then fell to earth like asteroids. I would only trade that card for proven stars, so I know I am getting something in return. If you are comfortable speculating, that is your choice, if so I hope it works out for you.

QUOTE(IowaCubs1 @ Apr 10 2012, 07:04 PM) If I were to do the trade... I would get: Bryce Harper Bowman Chrome Autograph RC Bubba Starling Elite Extra Edition Redemption Autograph RC Anthony Rendon Contenders Autograph RC Ryan Braun Topps Museum Booklet Autograph 4 patch (one patch is the entire M logo from the brewers) /10 Tim Tebow Topps Supreme Autograph /20 He would get: 1986-87 Michael Jordan ungraded RC Which would I rather have? Of all the cards listed the only one I would be interested in might be the Braun so I would have to say I'd make the trade. If it came down to money, flipping, buying, selling, what have you, I'd have to say I'd probably sell the Jordan, buy the Braun (if I really wanted it) and pocket the rest of the money. If I thought I could make more making the trade I'd probably make the trade. Really it comes down to why you want the cards. If its for PC go with your heart, which would you rather have? I'd rather have the Braun. If its for money then... well I almost said who cares but that's a bit harsh so I guess I'll just say go with the one that will make you the most money. Which one that is I have no idea. Bottom line, whatever you decide move on, don't beat yourself up over it by saying woulda, coulda, shoulda, a month or six down the road.
