Ugh, not sure whether to be happy or sad? Was disappointed this morning when I heard he turned down the Pens 10 yr deal of $60 million, and I thought it might lead to this. Bummer, would have liked to have gotten more for him, but we will see how it pans out. The media said he was intent on trying out free agency and seeing how much he could get which would have meant that the Pens would be out of the running based on what the market would give, barring injury or a bad season. So they up and traded for the 8th overall pick, center Brandon Sutter, and defensman Brian Dumoulin. They picked defenseman Derrick Pouliot with the 8th pick. Not sure on the trade, I thought the Pens were heavy on D men in the minors. Maybe this means they will be trading one of those big contracts of either Martin or Michalek?? We will see.

Gonna miss you Jordan, but can't say I blame the Pens on the move.

martin has been a huge bust in my opinion as has michalek.

Let em both go and get a big gun.

Sutter has a high ceiling if he can ever stay healthy and be given a chance.

I like the trade on the surface and wish staal well.

Yeah, great for him. And yes the second part is what worries me, that could come back to haunt the Pens in the playoffs and regular season.

Kind of bummed, stinks he wouldn't re-sign and this was the best move to get something for him, but the return feels like when the Pens dealt Jagr to the Caps, just somewhat better. They got some return in this one, but not near what they gave up IMO. Beyond that the Pens are so loaded on D it is insane. I get the pick as that guy plays well with another guy in the Pens organization (Joe Morrow). Just crazy that we end up with 2 D in that return deal. Oh well, they are the experts so we will see how it shakes out.

Speaking of D, they dealt Z Michalek back to the Coyotes for a 3rd rd pick, another D man and a goalie. So one D down and now they have some salary cap space, so some things look a little better.

Fluery is locked up for around 4 more years so he is not an issue, it is Geno and Sid that they have to work on now.

Parise might be a Pen, now that they freed up cap space? That is what the announcers were speculating last night, that the Staal move opened up space to take a run at getting Parise. Not sure that will happen, but I would not complain if they got him for the right price.

I think it is over now. Last I saw they were on round 7 around 2 PM.
