Donruss Classics has been a special product to me over the years. I had been "out of the hobby" for many years, when I dabbled a return in 1999. But even then, I only bought single packs on occasion. Nothing that anyone would term an obsession in which I might need medication. But in 2001, I discovered game used cards being put into products when I got a pack with a Nolan Ryan Roger Clemens dual game used card. This peaked my interest, and I began researching the products that included these. Donruss Classics immediately came to interest to me...I could get a George Brett Game Used...or maybe even an auto? Having grown up a Brett fan, this was awesome! That and couple with the facts that you could also get Ruth, Gehrig, or countless other Hall of Famers, this seemed too good to be true! Plus, the 01 product included one of the highest quantity of game used cards in a box around. A little more thought into the product (if George Brett sold all of his uniforms that they reused multiple times back then, and if Derek Jeter sold all of his one time used jerseys...who would have less supply in 20 years? I ordered my first box ever through Ebay...friends...let me tell you...the first box hooked me. I have of course bought other products...and some have offered fun for a while...2006 Fleer Greats of the game, 2008 Donruss Threads, but those seemed one hit wonders...whereas Classics provided solid products for many years....even in the football category I got into a year later... But putting together a list like this seems somewhat difficult. To take my Classics cards (shoot....10,000 different maybe?) and whittle them down to 100. That is tough..but then to put them into order as well? Especially since I have cards en-route that will no doubt make this list (one already has sight unseen, but two others have possibilities as well). But, I have attempted to do so. This list is not made based on book value, but more on an asthetic basis. Some cards will have stories, a few will not. But let's also be honest, book value still has alot to do with asthetic value. As a result, you will find no base cards on this list, though one in particular did get serious consideration. That was the 2008 Wes Welker. The first time I saw that card my thought was...that picture deserves to be on the cover of Madden....and I still believe that to be true today. Even straight RCs and inserts will be rare on this list. I guess that makes sense though now that I think about it and go back and consider my motivation for selecting 2001 Classics. It was all about the "hits" then. Don't get me wrong though, I love the inserts, the RCs, and most of the parallels. One of my packages incoming contains complete sets of 2008 Donruss Classics Classic Combos GOLD parallels, as well as the triple and single sets as well. So, this list is not only to "show off" my pride and joy...but also, a testament to my dedication and commitment to this product. Though, I have decided to limit my quest to DONRUSS classics, I admit I still gladly accept and trade for Panini as well. I hope you enjoy looking through my collection...as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. Card #100 A "rookie" card starts off our list. A 2004 Ryan Howard. Every time I look at the price lists, I am determined that this card should be valued more! I have always hated Bowman, and this card is a perfect example of it. A huge power hitter like this...and it's BV last time I checked was only $15. But still...a RC of this guy is a nice start I believe to my top 100.

#98 Man...today was a big day for the collection. I got two sweet packages today. One was a package from EBAY. It was the entire 2008 Classics Classic Singles Gold (#d/100) set, the 2008 Classics Classic Combos Gold set (missing one card), and the entire 2008 Classics Classic Triples Gold Set. For the Bronze, Silver, and Gold version of these inserts...I am missing a total of 5 cards...wow The second package was from our own echunks. I knew one(of the 56 cards included!!!- WOW!!) one was going to be a ways up this list...but after seeing some of the cards...at least two will make it now...even a third has a chance....it was a sweet lot! But, I am not going to give it away. And...I have another very nice lot coming in too! So..this list is very fluid. Next up on our list...is another insert card. A beautiful card featuring some real legends.. Lou Gehrig, Roger Maris, and Thurman Munson #d/500. The pic doesn't really do it justice.. That includes all the straight inserts, and RCs that will be on the list.
