QUOTE(2000 rushing yards @ Mar 22 2011, 07:48 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=ApUG...-cookesuspendedWhat are your thought on him? I feel like the suspension was very fair, it was a blatant elbow, but I don't believe he should be suspended longer than this. Joe, I think the suspension is somewhat warranted, but there are a lot of media here stating this was nothing more than a mere slap at Mario and the Pens for their comments on the head shots and complaints about the NHL failure in the Isles fight/suspensions. What bothers me is there will not be any consistency going forward. Matt Cooke is merely being made the scape goat or poster boy. The next one will not be as severely punished. Remember Trevor Gillies hit Tangradi with a head shot and got 10 games, he came back and 2 minutes into his next game did the same thing to Cal Clutterbuck and only got 10 games more, wouldn't that have been time to set an example. In addition, Cooke has a lot more real hockey skill than Gillies ever will, he just acts stupid on occassion. Gillies has one purpose to be a goon. Again I think the penalty is justified as it was stupid and blatant, but if it was not Cooke or a Pen would it have been as long? Colin Campbell doesn't want to be upstaged by Mario or Ray Shero as his contribution to hockey has been so much greater. He needs to go and there needs to be an arbitration group deciding on these matters.

QUOTE(meltdown16 @ Mar 23 2011, 08:54 PM) Basically i think the league needs to get a set in stone list of infractions that are the same for everyone regardless if your a goon/star player even a goaltender. Until there is a consitantcy we are always going to have this problem...especially around playoff time.. I agree. So how consistent was the ruling for Betuzzi? Not exactly the same as Cooke's hit, but I honestly think the same intent was there and warranted a suspension of some sort, for one of the NHL's other worst repeat offenders (didn't he end someone's career?). So the new rule is you try to knock someone's block off then go to the lockeroom (or hospital) after the game and apologize and the NHL turns a blind eye and no suspension is handed out.
