A game-used Jackie Robinson bat dating from 1949 and a rare T206 Ty Cobb card sold for record prices in a sports memorabilia auction over the weekend. Somewhat overshadowed by the national publicity attended six lots of Kobe Bryant memorabilia, the two baseball pieces were among six items that sold for more than $50,000 each in the catalog sale conducted by Goldin Auctions.
In all, the auction of more than 1,150 items generated total winning bids of more than $2.4 million.
The Robinson bat was the only one from his MVP season known to have ever been offered at auction. Graded PSA GU-9, it sold for $159,867, a record for a Robinson bat.

T206 Cobb with Cobb Back Goldin AuctionsThe T206 Ty Cobb was one of about a dozen known examples of the card featuring an ad for Ty Cobb Tobacco on the reverse, a short-lived plug tobacco brand that used Cobb’s name in an effort to boost sales. Graded PSA 1 (Poor), it sold for $120,109, a record for the card in that grade. The tobacco originally came in tins with the card inside.
