Here is what I wrote on my Draft blog:

The St. Louis Rams find themselves in a unique situation......they hold the first overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. It is unique in the fact that the team hasn't held that "unfortunate" distinction since the 1997 draft, when they selected Offensive Tackle Orlando Pace; and, they have only held the pick four times in the franchise's existence.

Now that's not to say that the Rams have been good by any stretch of the imagination (anybody remember the LA Experiment).........because they haven't been. However; for a team that produced the Fearsome Foursome and The Greatest Show on Turf ; well, it has got to be a bitter pill to swallow.

To claim that the team is rebuilding would be a slight under statement........to say the least. Considering the fact that they have only won SIX GAMES in the past three years!!! SIX GAMES!!!!

My grandmother plays in the Red Hat Society summer league and they have won more games.....for crying out loud!!!! SIX (explicit language-banging my head on the table) GAMES!!!

OK........sorry.......I'm fine. Had a momentary "mic is still hot" moment there but I'll be alright.

Here is my draft analysis of the St. Louis Rams and who I think they will pick with their first selection:

The Joint Chiefs of Staff: After two consecutive losing seasons, Scott Linehan was gone and the N.Y Giants former Defensive Coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, was brought in to man the helm. Surprisingly; not much changed.........I know, I know, the team is "rebuilding"....... But come on. 1-15 in your first year Steve!!! Did Stan Kroenke make the right choice when he brought in a Defensive coach to run an Offensive minded team?

The Field General: Now I have nothing against Marc Bulger......I mean.....for all I know....he could be one of the nicest guys in the league. I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM!!!!!!!!!! Why?? (you might ask) Simply because he replaced one of my favorite quarterbacks (Kurt Warner), played exceptional well (he threw for a career high of 4301 yds in 2006), and then wouldn't give Kurt the job back. Now I know this is really hypocritical of me; since, after all, that is exactly how Kurt got his job from Trent Green...........but hey.........It's my blog and I choose to hate the guy............

Honestly, as hard as it is to admit, he was a good quarterback. He just needed to stay off the ground (he was sacked over 200 times) and had several concussions. Just ask Steve Young and Troy Aikman how fast a career can end if you don't have a good O-line protecting your backside. (Then again; standing on the practice field without a helmet on and getting hit in the back of the head by a stray pass doesn't help much either!!!) Unfortunately, the injuries were just to much (he only played a total of nine games last year) and; subsequently, he was released along with Kyle Boller.

With only two Rookie QB's left on the roster, the Rams went out and signed vetern quarterback AJ Feeley to run the team.........but........look for them to draft the future of the franchise with their #1 overall pick. With Heisman Trophy winning Quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford headlining a class of top NFL prospects, the Rams are in a very good position.

and......This is where the coaches and scouts earn their paychecks.

Every team strives for the next Peyton Manning and fears the unforeseen Ryan Leaf........

The Ground Force: The St. Louis Rams desperately need a bruising running back to pair with Steven Jackson. The combination of Jackson plus Travis Minor/Brian Leonard (2007-2008)/Antonio Pittman (2008)/and Kenneth Darby (2009) didn't produce the numbers they had hoped for and......ironically.......Mr. Zygmunt decided to pass on Darren McFadden.

The question now remains....simply and realistically....is there a RB in this year's draft class that would justify an early franchise pick? I personally don't think there is and I also think drafting someone like CJ Spillar (Clemson) would be a mistake.

Look for the Rams to once again wait on a Running Back and either pick one up on the free agent market or in the later rounds of the draft........much like they did when they selected Chris Ogbonnaya with their final pick of the 2009 NFL draft. (I threw that last part in to see how many people stumble trying to say the name......LOL)

The Air Force: The Rams have always been an "air-it-out" type of team but with a new coach comes a new philosophy. Hence; we get the "Out with the old and in with the new" receiving corps......and, personally,........I don't like it. Now, I'll admit that Donnie Avery has shown promise but basically you are relying on a bunch of rookie receivers to carry your franchise.

If the St. Louis Rams are truly commited to turning their franchise around and will be drafting the future leader of their offense (like I think they will) then look for them to draft a couple of wide receivers this year to help him out......and......quite possibly bring a free agent like Issac Bruce back home. The problem lies in the fact that the recieving corps in this year's NFL Draft is not as talented as we have seen in recent draft classes.

Other than Dez White (Georgia Tech) can anybody even name a top WR prospect.

The tight end position has promise with veteren Darcy Johnson in camp; but, look for the Rams to draft a young heir apparent on the second or third day.

The Front Line: The Offensive line is weak and it doesn't help that they are battling injuries, free agency, and they are young. If Spagnuolo wants to protect his QB, he needs to address a front line that has given up 40+ sacks over the past two years. After drafting Jason Smith and John Greco the past two years, don't look for an offensive lineman to be at the top of the Ram's boards................but be assured that one will be selected on the third or fourth day.

Over the past several years, the St. Louis Rams have predominately selected a defensive player on the first day of the draft. Chris Long, Adam Carriker, Richie Incognito, and Tye Hill being the most recognized examples of this trend.

Air Defense: Yet; the bright spot, on defense, is probably the play of O.J. Atogwe and Ron Bartell..........the franchise's second and third round draft picks of 2005. Along with Quincy and James Butler, look for them to solidify the Ram's Defensive backfield for years to come.

However; with that having been said, if Eric Berry (Tennessee) falls to the second round look for the St. Louis Rams to select him with their second pick. Personally; I don't think he will still be on the board......but, then again.....I didn't think Laurinaitis was going to still be on the board, last year, either.

Linebackers: The St. Louis have been lucky when it's come to drafting linebackers. It's not everyday that the final pick in a draft makes the roster of a NFL franchise but that is exactly what the "Mr. Irrelevant" pick of 2008, David Vobora, has done. With Vobora, Laurinaitis, and free agent Naill Diggs backing up the D-Line don't look for the Rams to select a linebacker early but they will probably be looking for that next "diamond in the rough" in the seventh round.

Trench Warriors: The D-Line is young and hungry so it's only a matter of time before they have a breakout year................soo don't look for the Rams to draft another defensive lineman with their first pick this year. Besides; most of the top prospects will more than likely be gone anyways. If they do draft a lineman, it will be later in the process and mainly for depth.

Special Teams: The Rams brought Dante Hall over from the Chiefs to improve their special teams but, due too a nagging ankle injury, wasn't really the X-factor that he was when he played for Kansas City. The bright spots in 2009 were Danny Amendola and Chris Chamberlain (who led the team in special team tackles) so don't look for the team to try another X-Experiment any time soon.............

THE ST. LOUIS RAMS DRAFT BOARD:
1. Sam Bradford
2. Eric Berry
3. Dez White

The St. Louis Rams select:
Quarterback

Sam Bradford
