For the last year of so, I have been casually beginning a collection of Baseball, Hockey &, more recently, Football Hall of Fame Game Used cards.
I'm not a basketball fan at all, so collecting HOF GU from that sport has never interested me. As for baseball, a HOF collection is right up my alley, since I couldn't name 1/4 of the players in the All-Star game. I'm definitely "old school".
Since joining TCC in February, I've gotten a little more agressive, thanks to trades & Group breaks. I also enjoy ebay "low-balling".
I'm relatively early in my collecting, so I've (for the most part) concentrated on lower-end cards. When it come to "Game Used", I'm not picky. Jerseys, bats, sticks, boards, shoes, jockstraps...all qualify. The goal is one per player, although on occasion, I may get more than one, particularly if I like the look of it (or if they are a great deal!)
I've posted some of my additions under the "Mail day" forum, but after looking around the site, as well as seeing some of the questions & comments, I've decided to show the collection in this thread.
There is a running total in my signature.
As always, comments, questions & smart-aleck remarks are always welcome!

Joe Montana # 28/30
Thanks again for looking!
I really like the Lawrence Taylor card! Great pickups!
Nice Stallworth and Bradshaw.
This week;
From ebay. Charlie Taylor # 58/100
The seller had listed it as Charlie Trippi (whom I needed), but it actually turned out to be Charlie Taylor. I already had a Taylor, but since it only cost me 99 cents, I decided to keep it.
Another ebay find: Lou Groza # 168/250
Via a trade with beanschat:
Dan Marino # 136/250
Now, on to baseball:
Via ebay: Kirby Puckett

Until next time....
Sweet stuff, the Largent doesn't hold water to the other three....
Nice adds! That Bradshaw college uni is sweet!
I'm making a slight adjustment to the subject matter in the thread. I'll now be including autographs of HOFers as well.
My focus is still on GU, but I'd be crazy to turn down a nice auto.

This week's additions all come from a small card show at a bowling alley.
The first 2 are football:
Sonny Jurgensen # 69/100
Lance Alworth #183/250
Then baseball:
Warren Spahn:
The above 3 were all purchased from the same dealer & worked out to about $4.50 each.
The last one is my favorite, considering the quality of the flannel swatches. The dealer had a $7 price on it, so I just handed him $20. He then said "Since you didn't ask for a deal, I'll only charge you $6."
Robin Roberts Dual # 3 / 15 !!

Remember when both players were a lock for the Hall??
& finally
very nice stuff
Picked up a better looking Steve Shutt from ebay.
#/299
Interesting thing is that the Canadiens have never had a Teal-colored item on their uniforms in their entire 100 year history! He played one season with the Kings, but they didn't have it either!
The back of the card says "...having been used in an official event." What does that mean? A part-time modeling job??
3 FB HOF Autos are on their way!!
2 New additions via TCC Trade
Paul Hornung
Don Maynard
One more coming from the bay.
Love the Hornung....
Great additions, I love the Maynard auto. His auto is sweet!
all in all a wonderful start to a collection that brings history to life.

Sometimes, in retrospect, the combos are not as good as what was thought at the time:
John Elway & Matt Leinart # 75/100
At least it's a pairing of a HOFer & a Heisman Trophy winner!

from a TCC purchase, Jim Kelly # 222/250
From ebay
Orlando Cepeda # 63/325
Still more on the way....
Voted in today..the Hawk!! Andre Dawson!
I prefer to remember him as an Expo. (Also, Tim Raines should go in as well. Unfortunately, he had the misfortune of playing at the same time as Ricky Henderson. Otherwise, he would have been considered the greatest leadoff man of all time. But I digress...)
Sweet Hawk....always liked him....

A few more added over the last 2 weeks:
First up is an autograph of Luc Robitaille. It is a buyback from 2008-09 O-Pee-Chee (although I frankly don't think is cost too much to buy this card back, considering it is a 90-91 Topps ). It does have a hologram sticker on the back, as well as a matching COA.
Next, from the same large ebay purchase as the Robitaille, Steve Carlton;
The next 2 are from individual ebay auctions:
First up, Denis Potvin (Silver edition, limited to 70)
and finally a Rod Woodson # 269/299
The same large lot I referred to earlier also yielded me a Tommy Nobis autograph (one of these days he might be a veterans' committee nominee.)
It also had an Isiah Thomas Panini Classics GU. Since I don't collect basketball, this card is available for trade to someone who has a HOF jersey card I could use from one of the other 3 sports. If you have something to trade please PM me.

Following Jim Brown at Syracuse, he became the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns, but was diagnosed with Lukemia shortly afterwards, and died from the disease.
I would recommend that the next time the ESPN SportsCentury documentary is shown on ESPNClassic, you check it out.
