I have been looking to purchase the 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson RC and noticed that there seems to be two versions of this card. I'd like to get some info before making the purchase. There is an uncorrected error version (variant?) that has an error on the back relating to Modesto/Fresno California, and, I presume, there is a standard, non-error version of this card. There seems to be little info on the net about this, and most eBay sellers do not make a distinction between the error version and the standard. So, for anyone who knows:
1. Are there actually two different versions of this card?
2. If so, is one more valuable than the other?
Thanks in advance...
I am not aware of any variations of this card. You state one is an uncorrected error. This means that there is no corrected version.
I am a Rickey Henderson collector and I am unaware of different versions of his RC.
If there was an error like the one you stated, as a Henderson collector, I still would not put a special distinction between the two, but that's just me. Maybe that means I'm just not hardcore enough
As also a collector of Rickey Henderson (and two RCs from 1980), I do not know of any variations either.
As a 35 year veteran in the card hobby. There is no Rickey Henderson variation. If there is an error on his 1980 topps rookie, then it was an uncorrected error. As old as the set is, Beckett would have noted a variation decades ago if that was the case.
Here's my expert opinion - we don't see enough of you around here anymore Mike!
How have you been?
