Collector Zone _ Box Breaks _ 12-13 ITG Forever Rivals hockey box/pack

Posted by: northicehero99 Oct 16 2012, 07:58 PM

Ordered a box of 12-13 Forever Rivals by In The Game. The product features a 12 card pack with 6 hits from the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Here are the results of my break:

Base set (2): Jose Theodore and Darcy Tucker

Base set gold parallel - Jean Beliveau

Net Rivals insert of T Broda and B Durnan

Immortals insert of Georges Vezina

Double Agents insert of Shayne Corson

Now onto the hits:

Jersey cards:
Brian Savage - Montreal - Red version two color swatch red/white
Nikolai Kulemin - Leafs - Blue version blue swatch with thick seam
L Robinson and B Salming - Rivals dual gu - Montreal/Leafs - Silver version both white swatches

Auto cards:
Russ Courtnall - Montreal
Errol Thompson - Leafs
Gilbert Dionne - Montreal

Base set - 3.5 of 5 - nice design, sharp looking cards, would be a nice set to build, but with so few per box would take a lot of box buying or trading to complete.

Inserts - 4 of 5 - nice designs, always coming up with something different, my only complaint is they are too old school or cheap looking, for the price per pack can we add some foil or flair to the inserts like you did the base?

GU - 3 of 5 - nice sized swatches with nice pieces, but only 1 of 3 contained players I was expecting. I have heard of all 3, but when I think of the name Forever it sends me back in time to the 50s-70s not current day players.

Autos - 3 of 5 - nice on card autos, but seriously Gilbert Dionne??? Not sure about the other two, but not the kind of big names I think of when I think Montreal or Toronto. Rather lackluster names in this box, not sure if they were all like this.

Quality Control - 4 of 5 - no issues that I noticed.

Overall - 2 of 5 - Bought this with the hopes of seeing a few names from the past and got mostly inserts of those players. For the price should have bought Artifacts or something else. While the designs were nice and refreshing, this is almost as bad as the Broad Street Bullies product with the lack of "star" power in the product. Way too overpriced, reminds me of Enforcers as well, same issues. Should have waited until this one bombed on the secondary market to take a stab at it. Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks for the look and good luck with your boxes!!!

His last few have been above par, maybe double bogeys? Broad Street and Enforcers were both blah products IMO based on the checklists. Enforcers you would expect that due to the nature of the players, this one and Broad Street, I wouldn't have expected. Probably should have a little considering restricted to just certain franchises which leaves out some of the greatest players of the game, still there were some decent players on the Leafs and Habs, better than most of what I pulled.
