Good evening. It's time to get TCC back on the baseball break map! I'm looking for 14 other members to own teams.

Cost: $20/ month
This break is open only to US members.

1st team is chosen on a first come, first serve basis.
For the second team: member names will be put through random.org to determine a draft order and each member will have the opportunity to draft from the remaining teams. You will own these teams and will carry them over to the next month. If someone drops out, their teams become available immediately with current members having first shot at them.

Multiple player cards will be determined as follows:
Players shown vertically will go to the team on the top.
Players shown horizontally will go to the team on the left.
Quad cards will go to the team in the top left corner.

The break will occur LIVE on Ustream.tv The channel is budgetboxbusters. You will receive all cards from your team.

I have completed one break on TCC and several on another site so join with confidence. If you would like to see an example of how my breaks go, please feel free to check out my Ustream Channel.

Boxes will be hobby boxes purchased from dacardworld. We will receive free product which will also be part of the break. Members will get to decide free product we choose. 78 Topps Wax packs will be purchased from ebay.

In the future, members will have input as to what we break. We will follow this same format: 1 current, 1 past year, 1 from the 80s or 90s, some type of vintage packs where funds permit.

Funds due after break fills. If we get this filled, paid, ordered, and receive the product before the end of May, this will break in May and we'll begin getting things set for June. If it doesn't, we'll break in June.

I do try keep the break rolling as well as adding informative tidbits and a little humor. Not sure how much fun they are to watch, but they're a blast to host! I can't wait to get this thing rollin'!

Thank you, sir. I hope with the older product maybe we can pass on some love for base and inserts as well as get a taste for chasing hits. Hits are great, but I still love the look and feel of those old cards.

May I ask why you have been against group breaks? I know I have had mixed feelings about them in the past. Most of my concerns have been that they usually only include newer product. The cost seems so high due to price of boxes and chasing hits. With those it seems if you miss a hit, you don't get much for your money due to limited number of base cards and inserts/ team in each box. As a team collector, I don't care if I get a hit or not as long as I get an ample amount of base and inserts to add to my collection. Just curious to see what other people's thoughts are.

Now, it seems like there are so few baseball breaks that you can't get in one even if you wanted to because they're already filled or just aren't available.

My problem isn't necessarily with the "group break" concept, it just seemed that once group breaks started here they took over the boards.  Multiple group breaks in multiple sports, every other thread seemed to involve a group break and every transaction posted seemed to deal with a group break.  Just seemed to clutter TCC up and gets frustrating when transactions are created because when you check "new posts" there's a full page of sales and not very much other content.

Wow, less than 24 hours out of the gate and we only have 6 spots left! That's fantastic! I'll be hosting a 2012 Bowman release break on my UStream channel tonight @ 8PM CDT. If you haven't seen the new Bowman cards, feel free to stop by and take a look. I'll also be promoting this monthly break to the members of tonight's Bowman break. Maybe we can get some new blood here at TCC!

Did I jinx this break? It appears that the only free baseball product for our price point is 8 packs 2010 UD retail. 8 packs of 2009 Donruss Americana is also available. We can random the non-baseball cards. There is also a 2007 UD Baseball Rookie redemption set available.

Let me know what you all think.

So these are coming from D&A. None of those really have anything. The Americana retail might have a relic in it. If you get a sealed 8 pack box, you got a shot as I was getting a relic 1 every 1.5 boxes or so when they came out (pulled 1 auto out of like 9 boxes). Not sure what is in the UD retail and the rookie redemption would be my last choice.

Ok, so we can go with dacardworld and get a few paltry packs of retail thrown on top of our order or we can order from Bearcat Sports Cards (a fellow TCCer) and have enough left over to purchase another pack of 78 Topps. Personally, I'd rather take the extra pack of 78 Topps than anything retail that D&A is giving away. Let me know what you all think.

UPDATE:
The majority of the transactions have been posted. Once we decide where these final 3 teams are going to land, I'll be finishing that up. We had an issue with our original distributor, and, thus I'll be ordering these boxes from DA Card World. We will get free product thrown on top of our order. Is the 8 packs of UD retail ok? Or would you all prefer something else?
I have already ordered and paid for the 78 Topps. They should be in the mail tomorrow. Since our original distributor didn't follow through as promised (the issue is currently being resolved through PP), we only have enough funds for 3 packs of 78 Topps. Since everyone was pleased with being able to add a 4th pack instead of the retail we would get through DA, I went ahead and covered a 4th pack and will be including it in the break. I appreciate all of you for helping make this break happen. If your transaction has been posted, please send your payment along as soon as possible so we can get the boxes ordered.

UD retail is fine. You could also do 2 Free boxes of Ace Straight Tennis. Randomize the memorabilia. You get 1 per box. I bought 10 at $4.99 each and pulled a Djokovic, Cljisters and Sharapova swatches. Your guaranteed 1 swatch per box, so the break would get 2. Just another option, though I guess you could randomize the inserts as well. But the UD would be fine.

For next month, I don't think $50 for a pack of 1975 is very "budget". Maybe something a little cheaper IMO. But I would be cool with some Finest from the 90's and we could even do some recent Finest as well. Would be fun. Thanks.

The boxes have been ordered from dacardworld.com. They should be here Monday or Tuesday. The 78 Topps packs are on their way. I ended up getting 5 packs. They should be arriving any day now.

78 Topps arrived yesterday. According to UPS tracking, the boxes will be here Tuesday. I have to coach my son's baseball team Tuesday night and won't be able to break Tuesday. Does Wednesday work for everyone? Say around 9PM est?

Well, that wraps up the recap.

Final Thoughts

We didn't hit anything major, but I thought it was a success overall.

I was very impressed with Gypsy Queen. I thought we got a lot of nice stuff out of the box, I liked the look of the cards. The Autos are both on-card (definite plus). The relics look good especially the framed mini. The checklist for the product is great! The SP variations add a nice twist to an already great checklist. I think it was the best value in the break.

I also thought 2011 Topps Chrome was a pretty good value. We got a few nice refractors of well known players. The Autos are of up and comers so we'll have to wait a while to see if they pan out. Downside- sticker autos Still not bad.

1978 Topps- Nothing big, but you just can't go wrong with pack fresh vintage.

2010 UD Retail- I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing major, but we landed a Buster Posey RC and that Adrian Gonzalez Die-Cut is a beauty. It was free and provided some value. That's a combo I like!

1999 Bowman Chrome Series 1- Ugh. There's a reason it's still on the shelf..... that's where it belongs. The collation was horrible and that's my biggest complaint. I could understand if it was an 89 release....but by 99 Topps should have had it figured out. I knew there wasn't much in the way of big name RCs, but I was extremely disappointed by how few refractors and inserts we received.

Bowman aside, I thought we did good. Thank you all again for participating. I'll get to packing these up. I hope you had fun and we'll see you next month.

Next month, I would like to seen another box of Gypsy Queen.....I have busted a ton of blasters of this stuff and there's still some key cards I'm looking for out of that set. Other than another box of Gypsy Queen, I have no preferences on product.

Overall, it wasn't bad. I did like the 2011 Topps Chrome box. I've opened quite a bit of this stuff and it is good value with the color that you get. We didn't hit anything big, but 2011 Chrome is definitely a good box for budget busters.

The Gypsy Queen also was another solid box and for what you get, price point is good.

The 78 Topps was surprised we didn't see any star's base cards. The Ryan, Brock & Jackson RB's were nice, but would have been nice to hit a star's base card out of 5 packs.

Well, after 2 trips across the country, the final package has landed. Thank you again to everyone who participated this month. The July Break has been submitted and is awaiting approval. Everyone has ownership of the chosen teams from last month. The drafted teams will go into the pool and a new draft order will be posted. I hope to see you all there.
