The 2008-2009 Barclays Premier League starts here in the UK on the 16th of this month, and I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on potential outcomes, or how certain players or teams are going to fair up?! Who will be this years EPL version of the Rays, or even Padres?! Will the Red Devils repeat, and take the title? What do you guys think?

Desperately hoping for Liverpool to make a stronger title challenge.....but then again, have been hoping for that for the past 18 years tongue.gif biggrin.gif

United, Arsenal and Chelsea will no doubt be among the top teams again, but it will be interesting to see if any other clubs can mount a sustained challenge.

United, Chelsea and Arsenal haven't not been in the top four, or even top three for years!!! I think Liverpool may be able to put a little more pressure on the top teams if they do manage to pick up Gareth Barry before the season, as well as with the addition of Robbie Keane from Spurs. I think my Villians are hopefully on the rise! They finished the 06-07 season 10th with 50 points; then last season 6th with around 60 points, so we're heading in the right direction!!

I go away for my summer Hols on the 15th of this month so will miss the first two weeks of the season but am very much looking foward to it!! It's going to be a little crazy sports wise the next few months with the soccer, Baseball, NFL pre-season and then working into regular season and the NASCAR!!!

It should be good to see how the new signing for each team pan out! I want to see how Crouch gets on with Pompey and Defoe. The likes of Defoe, Muntari and Benjanin (before he moved to City) were playing some nice soccer last season, so I think they will be up their again and contending for a 5th place spot!

Should be an interesting season. How does everyone think Tottenham will finish? They've lost a lot but Modric and Dos Santos look like they could be the real deal. It will beinteresting to see if Berbatov will stay.

I think Arsenal has a great shot to win the league this year as long as they can avoid injuries like last year (V.Persie, Rosicky, Eduardo). They have a great young nucleus, and with the addition of Nasri i think we are even better, despite losing hleb.

I agree ^^^

The only weakness in the gunners is there depth at the striker position is a bit weak. Adebayor will be fine and I think Bendtner will have a breakout season this year. I wouldn't expect Eduardo to do much even though he will be back eventually. RVP is good but he'll come down with an injury sooner or later. They really need some huge performances up front if they are going to take it all.

They have to win some kind of silverware this season or else I guarantee Wenger will depart for a different club, likely PSG. Even the Carling Cup would do for them.

I personally couldn't see Wenger departing if the Gunners don't win any silverware this year. I can see where you are coming from with the fact that they are such a big club, with a poole of talent; but I think he has been with the club for so many seasons, and been through so much with them; that he wouldn't just up and leave! But who knows!! As far as Spurs go, I've read a number of rumors that say Berbatov will possible head up to Man U as they have a potential desperate situation for the first few weeks the season!! Rooney's picked up a virus in Nigeria, Ronaldo's out with injury, Nani is suspended and Anderson with be at the Olympics! But then again you still have Giggs and Park that can pour on the pressure for opposing defenses!! Should be a good year!

Wenger said he wants to go back to France to coach before he retires.

Didn't know Nani was suspended, what did he do?

Rooney is overrated... he'll score against the garbage teams but he rarely scores when its important.

Personally I wouldn't say that Rooney is garbage! Out of the 4 games that Man U lost last season, Rooney was missing for 3 of them, so that could indicate what kind of a presence he is in the side. Also it's not purely the number of goals he scores that you should measure him on. He hustles hard to recapture the ball, plays some nice passes through to team-mates, and causes opposing defenses alot of hassle to cope with him, when he's paired with the likes of Ronaldo. As far as Nani's suspension goes I'm not too sure what he did, but I read on Football365.com that he would miss the first couple of games this season!

I hadn't heard about Wenger's wish to finish his career in France. In which case your previous point could very well be valid.

Good start with the victory! What a fantastic goal by Torres. They played down a bit to Sunderland, but the three points is what counts the most.

I'm ecstatic to be getting this in the mail soon. $32 delivered from eBay.

Yeah, I love it. I don't think mine is official, because I don't think it has the patches. I don't really care though, I think it looks amazing.
