How about them Red Sox!!!

They beat the Los Angeles Angels last night 7-6. Jacoby Ellsbury had 2 home runs and scored the game winning run!!!

So much for the 'experts' predicting they would have a bad April because of all the travel!!!!They are now 15-7, and have won 6 games in a row!!!

Their pitching has been A MESS, but they are scoring so many runs that it doesn't matter in most of their games.

I am concerned their bad pitching might catch up to them, but for now they have the best record in the AL, second best in the Majors, and best of all, the Yankees are 11-10

HAHAHA

They need to get rid of Timlin and Tavarez, I can't stand either of them.

Timlin is your guy's saving grace!

and Tavarez, still got the tar on his hat or what? laugh.gif

it figures i dropped ellsbury a week ago because he did nothing for me, then the guy i am playing picked him up and started him yesterday! grrr

Posted by: Cades Apr 23 2008, 10:48 AM

lol, Timlin is/has been terrible

x2 for Tavarez

Besides those 2 bums our bullpen has been pretty solid

So, what would you do if the Phils and Sox made the Series?

I TOTALLY AGREE.

The only decent pitchers this year are Aardsma,Daisuke,Delcarmen, and Papelbon.

Even Aardsma and Delcarmen have been roughed up a bit, but their stats are respectable.

Gotta go Phillies since they haven't won since I've been alive.
I've seen the Sox celebrate twice smile.gif
But it would have to be 7 game series ending with an Utley or Howard walk-off homer. thumbsup.gif

I would be happy if either won, but like I said, since I haven't seen a Phillies World Championship, I'd want to see them win.

Posted by: baseballguy601 Apr 23 2008, 09:02 PM

At least Big Papi hit a homer!!

WOOHOO

Casey and Lugo also had nice games!

Everyone else was thumbdown.gif and Mike Timlin continued to be terrible...

Posted by: Rhody_Red_Pats Apr 23 2008, 11:35 PM

The flu's doing around the red Sox clubhouse. First Varitek, then Delcarmen, now Dice-K, who was supposed to start today. Lester started on short rest and the Sox's top pitching prospect in the minors, Justin Masterson will make his MLB debut tomorrow. Hopefully the Sox get over the flu soon.

Posted by: baseballguy601 Apr 23 2008, 11:51 PM

Agreed!! It will be nice to see Masterson pitch though!

Posted by: Cades Apr 24 2008, 03:38 PM

And another blown by the bullpen

Posted by: Rhody_Red_Pats Apr 24 2008, 04:58 PM

Terry should have let Delcarmen stay in bed with some chicken soup for another day or 2.

i hate when people say this. even as a fan of another team, i know i would respect what curt schilling did. he risked his entire career on helping his team win the world series. it very well could have been his last time on the mound, even limited his hof chances. that was one of the single most inspiring performances in sports history.
as for the bullpen, every year at the start we say gotta keep timlin's innings down he's older, and yet we continue to overwork him. he's a great pitcher, but lets face it, his arm is shot and if we overwork him this year he'll be done. he's helped the sox so much in the past years. as for the youngins, give em a shot; remember they are the future.

AWESOME GAME by the Red Sox yesterday!!!

Another great pitching match-up at Fenway!!!
Another walk off as well!!!

For the second straight game against the Blue Jays, the Red Sox had great starting pitching (Daisuke Matsuzaka, 7 IP, 0 ER, 4 K's, 2 BB's)

On Tuesday, Youkilis won the game with a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Last night, it was Varitek with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth!

The SoX will go for the series sweep tonight at 7:05

AJ Burnett will Face Tim Wakefield.

The Sox are 5-5 in their last 10 game...but are 17-12 overall and have the second best record in the American League clapping.gif

How about Manny's catch and double play assist yesterday? I was at the game in the section next to the one where the guy who he high-fived was sitting. You can actually see me in the footage of the catch for about a second - I stand up and sit down fast (cause I didn't have a great view of it either way). I know they lost both games in B-more, but I think they'll rebound at home against the NL.

Don't worry. The pitching will catch up towards the middle of the season, Big Papi will lead the team to long streaks of hitting, and the newer guys, like Ellsbury, will continue to carry the team during veteran droughts. I think we have another W.S. to look forward to.

On a steal attempt Coco slid way late and hit Iwamura hard and Joe Maddon was yelling at him when he came out to make a pitching change.

heres the story
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280604102
Crisp was involved in a flareup in the eighth when he slid in on second baseman Akinori Iwamura and was out stealing. After Julio Lugo struck out, Rays manager Joe Maddon went to the mound to remove pitcher Jason Hammel, turned toward the Red Sox dugout and said something to Crisp.

"Everybody else on the mound started looking over there so I got louder," Crisp said. "I don't know if he could hear what I was saying but basically I just said, `I did that on my own so don't punish anybody else on the team.' "

Crisp was upset with shortstop Jason Bartlett, not Iwamura, after Bartlett put his knee down in front of the bag on Crisp's successful steal in the sixth. Crisp came out of that with a sprained left thumb that was bandaged after the game but may not sideline him.

"I told him ... I'd get back on base and then I'm going to show him how I felt about it," Crisp said. "It wasn't as dramatic as it probably would have been if he would have covered the bag."

Maddon said Crisp intended to injure Iwamura.

"There's no place for that when you intentionally try to hurt somebody," Maddon said.

Crisp said that wasn't his intention and he and Iwamura -- who said he wasn't hurt -- declared the matter closed.

Coco's not my favorite player, but he does have a great glove in the outfield despite his struggles at the plate.

I would have preferred a catcher in the 1st round to wait in the wings for once Tek is gone. Lowrie is able to play SS anyway. But who knows with the baseball draft? Maybe Theo can find a gem of a catcher in the late rounds like Mike Piazza.

haha coco got hit by shields and charged the mound.. both got ejected.. great call scott!

Anyone see Demarlo Hale take Shields out? He slammed him right down on the side of the mound. The things a 3rd base coach can do for a team...tongue.gif

Lowrie seems like a sure thing. I wish the Sox would trade Coco for some pitching help.

Wow I saw the fight coming

but Not Manny and Kevin Youkilis fighting

so Red Sox might be in some trouble

Ortiz and Dice-k are hurt, Ellsbury and Manny left the game with injuries and Crisp is going to be suspended.

They showed Crisp last night on Espn he looks like he got beat up pretty good

Posted by: scott0326 Jun 6 2008, 08:52 AM

Did anyone notice, as soon as Crisp came up the whole Rays dugout got up on the first step? I mean Jonny Gomes was he DH and he got out there faster then anyone.

So you're both telling me that it's ok for Sox fans to bash the Yankees anytime they want, but it's not ok for Yankees fans to bash the Sox? Where's the fairness in that?

Now I will admit that the Yankees aren't playing well, Saturday's game with Mo in the 9th had me in panic mode for a few. Hughes and Kennedy haven't pitched liked the front office had hoped they would, they're not hitting and scoring runs on a regular basis (scoring 18 runs against Texas in the series finale then getting blanked by Lester the next night). Yeah they have a short 2 game set against Tampa this week, then off to Pittsburgh for the makeup game and then end up in Toronto for the weekend before the break.

The second half of the season will play out and we will see what happens. It's not like the Yankees are completely out of the playoff picture, 8.5 games in the division and 4 out of the wild card. Remember it's what happens ON THE FIELD that counts and nothing else.

Yeah but Lester got hit and left. Any news on that today?

Posted by: scott0326 Jul 22 2008, 01:43 PM

Doesn't sound serious
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280721112

Lester struck out six and walked none in 7 1/3 innings. He allowed eight hits, the final one a hard one-hopper off his right shin. He left the game with a trainer and the bases loaded but did not appear injured while watching from the bench as Jonathan Papelbon got Raul Ibanez to ground into a double play

It didn't really get me too bad," said Lester, who was wearing a black sleeve over his lower leg but walked without a limp after the game. "It threw me for a loop more than anything. Shouldn't be an issue."

He also had manager Terry Francona and a trainer out to the mound when he tugged at the inside of his leg after a pitch in the sixth inning.

A protective cup had painfully pinched a certain area.

"You've got to wear them and sometimes they get in the way," Lester said, with a wry smile.

Francona had to laugh at that -- and, for a change, at a game away from Fenway Park..

last 2 games

Dice-k improved to 11-1

and Buchholz was a little shaky but the Bullpen was great this series, no runs in all 3 games, Masterson was great.

Side note: Ortiz is back Friday and Craig Hansen got his 2nd career save.

Pap pitched the 11th and got the win. They didn't send him out for the 12th because he had pitched the other 2 games in the series, one of those being a 5 out save.

Look how the Nomar deal turned out biggrin.gif I agree that he is affecting their play and as long as we don't give up any top tier prospects im good with the Bay/Grabow deal. It's time to move on

Would LOVE To See It, He Has A Good Relationship With Hanley, After His Time In Boston.

Tim, Manny has been like this for years and it has never affected the team. I don't like giving up Moss and Hansen. and I seriously can't believe other Sox fans want to throw Manny away. He's one of the best ever and will be entering the HOF as a Red Sox in about ten years.

There is no doubt he's a HOF and a large party of 2 world series and I thank him for all he's done. I know he's been like this and it didn't affect the team in the past, but watching the games the past few days I can't help but think it finally has. I would rather have his bat in the lineup and the draft picks that would come from not picking up the option, but right now I think the move had to be made to keep the clubhouse in order.

I don't believe that. He was in a contract year so he would play hard!

Posted by: Dynasty1254 Aug 1 2008, 12:47 PM

We didn't even give up that much for Bay. We gave up 2 months of Manny not playing hard. At best a fourth outfielder on the Red Sox and Hansen who could suddenly figure it out and turn into a shutdown setup man or closer but I'm beggining to doubt that he'll ever turn into more than a solid middle reliever. We got a better defensive LF, almost the same offensive production as Manny, and a player who has never played on a contender before and will be more motivated than ever. Also Bay never had guys like Youk, Pedroia, or Ortiz getting on base for him so his RBI numbers will increase too.

Don't forget that they also gave up 2 draft picks that they would have received if we didn't re-sign Manny. With the Sox's recent track record in the draft, those players could have turned out to be the next pedroia/Lester 4 years down the road. And there's the $7 mil salary still on the Sox's books, not that money is really an object to the club. The trade needed to be done, but the Sox did give up a a lot to get him. When other teams know that you are desperate to move a player, they are going to milk them for all it's worth.

Ya I hate to lose the draft picks especially after what we have got in the draft lately, but I just don't think it's as bad as people think it is. And if we let Bay go after next season we get draft picks then which might be better because a lot of people think next years draft is going to have a very weak class.

I think they will be fine to get to the playoffs. The Rays will fall at some point!

I hope they do Yankees is bad enough but now Yankees and Rays!

IN his first game as a Red Sox Bay is 0-1 with a HBP,Walk and run scored so far in the 6th inning

Posted by: ac5595bb Aug 1 2008, 08:48 PM

Well the way I think about it is that we traded Hansen (who has I think an over 5.00 era) and moss ( a backup outfielder) and $7mil for Bay since Manny was going to leave, so we gave the dodgers a "Rent-a-Manny" so we'll see who does better by the end.
My prediction:
Manny is going to have the better Regular season with the more fastballs in the NL, but Bay will have just as good a playoffs and the Red Sox Will win the 08 WS in 7 games with a walk off shot by Bay or Drew (I hope cool.gif
LETS GO RED SOX!

i went to yesterday's game. Pedroia for MVP! First sox player with back to back 4-4 games since Wade Boogs in 1989!

Yeah that stinks. It's hard to complain since Gavin Floyd is like my favorite pitcher, but I wish the Red Sox could have come back against the white Sox bullpen! laugh.gif
Hopefully the Sox can sweep the O's!
