QUOTE(cdoyal @ Mar 31 2008, 09:11 PM) I've got to address this one yet again. Your phone calls aren't being recorded. If you speak repeatedly with someone in Afghanistan, it MIGHT be recorded. I've got a bridge to sell you... QUOTE Show me one incident where one person's rights have been violated due to the Patriot Act - just one. It can't be that hard, can it? Oh, Brandon Mayfield seems to come to mind.

QUOTE(stlbaseball15 @ Mar 31 2008, 08:28 PM) Is there anything Bush could do that you WOULDN'T support? Absolutely! He put Ted Kennedy in charge of writing the education bill. He's spent money like a drunken democrat. He originally supported amnesty for illegals. Aside from stepping up our security, he's sure not been one of my favorites! I also wouldn't support him for a third term if there were a conservative on the ballot.

QUOTE(sahetu @ Mar 31 2008, 08:31 PM) I've got a bridge to sell you... Oh, Brandon Mayfield seems to come to mind. Yep, forgot about him. I stand corrected. There is one. How did that one turn out? Did our evil government make it right? So do we eliminate a major weapon we use in the war on terror because of an isolated incident? There clearly isn't a wide spread pattern here. That was my point but I shouldn't have issued the challenge for someone to come up with one. There are always exceptions.

I always appreciate people who are steadfast and supportive of their chosen party, no matter what. What I do find hard to understand is when it is right there, in your face, as you go about your day to day life. A war that can never be won because they are trying to be forced to have the same ideals of those in charge in the U.S. They haven't, they can't, and they never will. It is not possible until the very last fanatic is taken out. There are too many. You will never get them all. Let me make one point here very clear. I have not, nor will I ever have to go to Iraq so maybe I don't fully understand. Those that have, and will have to do so in the future, have more respect from me than I can put into words. I just want them to come home. Is this a crazy idea? Take all the people who are in our armed forces and line them up from California to Maine and see how many "troublemakers" get through. "We will fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" has been said. Given the strength the U.S. has, it seems that it would be a very intelligent decision not to "come here" in the first place. In the meantime, the U.S. is facing an economy that hasn't looked this bad in a long time. The housing market took a dive, in my opinion, for short term greed. As is the usual. Companies making the decision to extend credit to those who they know can't afford it. Then the stock market takes a huge hit, huge corporations go belly up (Bear and Stearns for example), and those that made the decisions have caused much chaos. They then fall flat on their face and want the U.S. government to bail them out. I'm sure there are many other things I don't understand about the whole situation but there is one thing I really DON'T understand. Why the billions and billions and billions spent and continuing to be spent thousands of miles away and so much here in the U.S. seems to be falling apart right in front of our eyes. Is that too dramatic for some? Ahhhh, probably so. It seemed pretty dramatic to me though when I had to put $70. in my vehicle today so I could get to work knowing my lousy pay is staying the same. I know there are many on this site that like George Bush and the job that he has done. As for me- I wonder how he sleeps at night.... I guess the one thought that has come to my head so many times in the last 7 years has been- you can't be serious!!?? You are? Really?? -Vickie

I will say this, Obama has not made "everything better", but it would be impossible to do that in such a short time. He has made some improvments in some areas, and I feel he has done great, with what he was given. The problems with the country were set into motion, even before Bush Jr took office, and where he may not have caused the problems, he sure didn't do anything to help improve them. We would have been in the state we are, no matter who would have took office, the economy issue is not a quick fix by any means.
My card collection has been put on hold, I pick up vintage cards from time to time, but overall I collect Music Memorabilia now. I am an avid Custom Print Guitar Pick collector now, so if you have any, let me know.

We would have been in the state we are, no matter who would have took office, the economy issue is not a quick fix by any means. laughable. the economy not only hasn't gotten any better, it has gotten alot worse. the national defecit is at an all time high (well, since the 1950"s). Obama has put us in debt qucker and faster than any previous president to date and it only stands to get alot worse. his economic stimulus and healthcare overhaul has been a complete disaster financially speaking. The dollar is dropping and we will be in debt to china well after my grandchildren are born! since Obama took over the reigns, the national debt is poised to overtake the gross domestic product. when Bush left office, the national debt was hovering around 9 trillion if my memory serves me right. now it's close to 15. some experts predict that when the Obamacare kicks in, we could easily surpass 20. that is double what it was at it's highest with Bush Jr. Now i don't agree with alot of what pres. Bush did. but waht Mr. Obama is doing is rediculous. we can't afford to give this mistake another 4 years.

QUOTE(fenway1990 @ Jan 20 2011, 01:12 PM) I don't think bush was the best president but i think he gets way to much heat. i have heard so many reasons on why the economy is crap and a few of them have made sense to me. the one that i see an the oblivious contributor was almost entirely democrat's fault. some bill that was passed allowing people to get house and car loans way to easy. some one working at McDonald's as a cashier can get a 30,000$ car and buy a house. it just should not happen. and then when he cant makes his payment... its BUSH'S FAULT... problem is this happens to a lot of people.. my parents did, fortunatly they sold the cars very soon after buying them.. i have done it to a small extent.. yeah, the big problem was the sub-prime mortgages that were allowed to happen. The president himself, and i'm refering to Obama, believes that a big contributer the the sub-prime mortgage problem was the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act,(signed into law in 1999 by Mr. Clinton), but it wasn't until 2007 that it all blew up under the watch on Mr. Bush. Bush did invade Irag which has caused us financial strain, but he doesn't hold all the blame.
