I put a lot of time and $ into building a nice player collection. But it is time to admit, the hunt is over. The player I selected was Domanick Davis (now known as Domanick Williams). He was a back with a great YPC carry who was the undisputed back on the team and got all the glory at the goal line. In other words, he was a work horse and a stud. But he was playing for a team that did not get a great deal of positive press which meant that his cards were fairly reasonable.

But, injuries seem to have ended his career. He hasn't played in a year, and there has been no news of anyone watching him. Over 200 cards, lots of GU and patches, autos. I really had a very nice collection going. What do you think I should do with it? Try and trade it out a piece at a time? Sell the whole lot on ebay? Piece them out on E-Bay? What is your recommendation?

If you are interested in getting any, please let me know that as well.

I dont understand...if this was truly a hobby for you whether the guy is playing or not should be unimportant...you collected stuff of his because you liked him....and you have a nice collection....collect someone else, start a (gasp) set....

but by your words it sounds like this was an investment for you which didnt pay off...look at all the money people spent on michael vick cards...with prices in freefall...book values just evaporated literally overnite...

good luck what ever you decide...but i would think it would depend on what you want to do...if the player is of no interest, and if money is what you want sell, sell, sell...or you can trade if you just want to add it as trade bait....

on another note check my set wantlist...looks like you may have some things i can use if you are interested thanks

fair enough Richard. What really got me collecting him was he was a keeper on my fantasy team. Was I a fan...absolutely. He helped carry me to the championship game once and the playoffs 2 out of his 3 years. Was it an investment as well? Absolutely. I thought he was extremely undervalued and felt he had the tools to be LT if only he had the blocking. Keeping them has also been a consideration.

nothing wrong with that...but for me the cards are a hobby first and investment second...I have lots of sets from the 60's sports and non sports worth much money, but feel todays RC start too high and only a few hold their values...if I decide i dont want something it goes on the trade page...take it you have nothing from my wantlist?

I have to agree with NEP. This is a hobby. If you want an investment buy gold, silver or stocks. All are much better risks than cardboard. I collect to collect. If I like a set I try to build it as long as the peices are within my pocketbook. Sometimes they are not but I enjoy the chase that is what makes collecting fun. Will DDs cards go up, no and they are probably on the skids now that his career is over. The only people collecting are a few loyal collectors who will continue to collect and like getting a bargain. I would say continue to collect as unloading now will probably garner you only a slightly larger profit than a few years down the road. Might as well continue collecting to collect.

got plenty of stocks..and other then the fun of watching the #s go up on a quarterly basis..the cards are alot more fun. Keep in mind...Domanick never would have been in my top 3 of favorite players.

Vikinghawkeye...tons..just about any base you might be interested or rookies..what have you got in mind? I haven't gotten a list of them anywhere as they were always in my PC.

i know this is just a hobby, and not really an investment to most. However, i have found that is isn't as enjoyable collecting someone who you don't see perform on a regular basis. there is just something exciting about watching you favorite players do what they do, that drives you to want to collect him/her. It would not be very enjoyable for me to collect, let's say, eli manning, if he lost his starting role with the giants, or was benched due to off the field problems. you would, over time, lose interest. for this reason, i have never really put all my stock into one player, rather I divy it up amongst a handfull or two of those individuals i enjoy watching. I think diversity also helps to keep ones interest in the hobby. just thought i would add my two cents.

excellent points and I agree. What drove me o colelct him was watching him on a weekly basis and thinking that I knew a great opportunity when I saw one. Just like stocks....sometimes it's time to start collecting someone else and knowing it is time to move on.
