QUOTE(stlbaseball15 @ Jan 21 2009, 04:04 PM) Please explain to me how that is any different. A policy failure is a personal failure when your at the highest position. He has everything riding on his policies, his reputation, his legacy. While Bush was president, I didnt like him or his policies or his actions. He might have been a failure, but I sure didnt wish him to. He is the President. If he fails, so do we. bush wasn't a failure, after 9/11, he got tunnel vision and was bent on keeping us safe and stomping out terrorism, all the while being mislead with faulty intelligence. for the last year or so, things have been going well with the exception of the economy, and that can't be pinned on him. he was deffinately not the greatest president we have ever had, not even in the to 10 or 20. but he wasn't a failure.

The Intelligence was not faultyafter 9/11. He still chose to stay the course. He is the Decision maker. His legacy will be quite revealing. Some good, some bad. Tricky Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld on the other hand are whole different beasts with own agendas that came to fruition; they always had the Boss' ear. Loyalty can make you great or do you in!..Lame Duck comes to mind. Rummy has been chillin' for some time now and probably smirkishly laughing the whole while . QUOTE(cdoyal @ Jan 21 2009, 05:09 PM) I have no idea how you come to that conclusion. Success come in many forms. You describe two possible definitions of success, both being based on ideological grounds. I quote, "I want Obama to succeed as President if the definition of success is that taxes are lower, personal responsibility is touted, our enemies are defeated, government shrinks, the stock market rises, etc. etc.
I want Obama to fail as President if the definition of success is that taxes are higher, health care is run by the governement, taxes are raised, our enemies are appeased, decisions are made based on how the world perceives us, abortion on demand at any time during pregnancy is law, etc. etc."We clearly know which one of those you stand for. But what of practical success? Such as ending the recession or restoring our integrity abroad? Do you not care for these endings if he doesnt accomplish them in the way you describe above?

Nothing is more important than sage counsel from boots on the ground! Peace, Party Chairman agreed, mostly. but the WMD intel was quite different then what was found, and barring the circumstances of 9/11, I can see why he chose to make the moves he did, and apparently most of the country as well. at the time, he had the country on his side, it wasn't til later, after lives were lost and months went by, that people started pointing fingers. and not just the intel, but the leadership of our trrops overseas wasn't quite up to par. since pitreus took over, things have started turning around. some decisions can't just be undone. the war is what it is. pulling out now wuld prove to be a big mistake, the same held true for the past couple yrs. true, he is accountable, being the president, but i still don't see him as a "failure"

QUOTE(cdoyal @ Jan 21 2009, 11:16 AM) Sorry guys, I can't join the warm fuzzy thread here. Congratulations on what? Fooling 57-some million people into thinking you have good ideas? I hope he doesn't deliver on any of his promises. I've yet to see the government do anything well and Obama just promises more of it. That doom and gloom speech yesterday followed by the market dropping is not encouraging. I am not hopeful for his presidency so I'll not pretend to be just to jump on the sweetness and light bandwagon. If I see positive moves by him, then I'll be more supportive. Until then, I'll be realistic. All this emotion surrounding this time is confusing to me. We elected a president based on emotion and feelings rather than issues. That truly saddens me. No one talks about what this hope and optimism is based on in terms of policy. I know, I know, the world will love us again, a "smart" guy is in the white house (just how smart are these cabinet picks?), etc. I am not bitter or angry - I'm just sad. But I am optimistic because emotion is short lived and sooner or later, it will wear off and then the new administration will be held accountable for their actions - not just their words. I certainly don't want to rain on anyone's parade though so continue to celebrate! Enjoy the "hope" and "change", whatever that may be. CONGRATS Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new age begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
