I recentley bought an xbox and i'm trying to connect it to the internet so I can use xbox live and whatnot. I can't hardwire it because that would require me to basically remove the roof of the basement. And i don't want to buy a wireless adapter for the xbox because they cost 80+ dollars. I happened to have an extra modem lying around and i was wondering if you can plug that into the cable while we already have one upstairs for all the comps. So one would be soley for the xbox while the other would be the main one for all the comps. Is this possible and would this work?

I actually don't think they would both work simultaneously. You would most likely have to turn one of them off before you turned the other one on.

that is correct. i tried doing it and it doesn't work.

you need a modem sharing device!

They make them for sharing a modem/fax/telephone where you plug the box into the wall jack to the back of that box and then all your other devices plug into the box.

You can still only have 1 operational at any one time becuase there is only one line but.. they will all work on demand that way!
