Picked up a few more tins online. Price was right, cheaper than I could get them locally. Tin 1: OPC Glossy pack: Carl Grundstrom blue, Cale Makar and Max Jones bronze. Inserts: Portraits (1): Carter Hart Canvas (1): Miro Heiskanen Canvas YG (1): Max Veronneau Young Guns (2): Blake Lizotte and Scott Sabourin Not the ones I was looking for, nice on the Portrait and CYG though. 5 packs out of 9 had something, so not bad, but no Shooting Star insert, but I would rather have the YGC anyway. Tin 2: OPC Glossy: Dante Fabbro and Trent Frederic blues, and Carl Grundstrom bronze Inserts: Portraits (1): Eric Staal Rookie Portraits (1): Erik Brannstrom Canvas YG (1): Adam Fox Young Guns (2): Max Jones and Quinn Hughes Hughes, but not the right Hughes. Where oh where is my Jack in the box???? Ugh! No luck again. Not a bad tin, another one with a YGC, the wrong Hughes, and a rookie portrait. Some harder to get hits, so not bad. I did not sort out the base on these, probably will do that later. Good luck on your next break, hope you find the player(s) you are looking for. |

Not bad inserts and at least no base packs. Where are the YGs? Your dealer might be selling them as hot packs. lol just kidding. |

QUOTE(Avaholicforever @ Nov 30 2019, 10:28 AM) Word on the street is Mark did the following... 1.)Got inspired after reading about Bernie Madoff 2.)Pocketed our November monthly dues - the big heist! 3.)He fled the US for Equatorial Guinea as it has no extradition agreement with the United States 4.)It cannot be proven, but it is said that as the plane took off, he held a sign up to his window that read "Habs #####! Go Bruins" I am currently working with Netflix on the rights to a miniseries. I will be played by Gary Sinise and Mark by Danny DeVito. I had more fun writing this than is reasonable. Lot of assumptions in this "story". 1 Mark can read?, 2 he pocketed a whopping $364 before paypal fees, 3 I think a ticket to Guinea is more than $364. I have not heard anything, but I hope Mark got in on some of the deals yesterday. We will have to see, but if someone wants to reach out to him on Facebook that would be good. |

Not a bad box, like the Generation Next and Energy inserts, would have been nice to have those in retail, but guess hobby only. Make sure you check for the jersey varitations, roughly 15 or so players. Matthews, Crosby and a bunch of others. Guessing it might be hobby only variation as well, but probably pretty rare and would not notice unless you are looking for them. |

Got a couple of tins at a reduced price and here are the results: Tin 1: 67 base cards Inserts: Portrait (1): Jack Eichel Canvas (1): Evander Kane Canvas YG (1): Alexandre Texier Young Guns (2): Ville Heinola and Vladislav Gavrikov OPC glossy: Ryan Poehling blue and Erik Brannstrom and Dante Fabbro bronze Tin 2: 63 base Inserts: Portraits (2): Sebastian Aho and Filip Zadina rookie Canvas (2): Brock Nelson and Tomas Hertl Young Guns (2): Ville Heinola and Brady Keeper Game Used: Jake Guentzel white swatch OPC glossy: Quinn Hughes blue and Trent Frederic bronze x2, really 2 of the same???? Overall, pretty good tins, but disappointed that there are less packs and fewer young guns in these than in the past. Tin 1 had 5 hits in 9 packs, not very many considering one (YGC) is something that probably is not in but a few tins. Tin 2 was a little better with 7 hits in 9 packs, but again one (GU) are probably not in many tins either. Beyond that both tins had 1 of the same YGs and the opc pack had two of the same player, how does that happen. I get the YGs as that is the luck of the draw, but the OPC should not have had, or if it did, at least one should have been a different color? Anyway, the goods outweighed the bad in these two, however if you are doing retail, I would probably recommend the full retail box as opposed to the blaster or tin for the money. At regular price a retail box is only slightly more than three blasters or two tins, so if you are chasing YGs the retail box is the way to go. Good Luck on your breaks! |

Got a retail box at a reasonable price. The box contains 24, 8 card packs. Just a note, I think they cut back on the blasters (heard 1 yg per on average) and the tins are now 9 packs rather than 12 (2 yg per at 1 in 4 packs). Here are the results of my box: Base set building: 1-100 - 82 cards, missing 18 101-200 - 92 cards, missing 8 Total 174 cards, no dupes, missing 26 for the base set. Not bad for a box. Inserts: Portraits (4): Tavares, Huberdeau, Pacioriety, and Vitaly Abramov RC. Canvas (4): B Tkachuk, Koivu, Granlund, and Gaudreau. Shooting Stars (1): MacKinnon. Young Guns (6): Ilya Mikheyev Nico Sturm Alexander Texier Dante Fabro Gaeten Haas Karson Kuhlman UD Game Jersey: Milan Lucic Overall not bad, not great, was hoping for Hughes, but who isn't. I like the revision to the Portraits, they look more like well, modern double shot portraits. Not thrilled with the Canvas changes, they look OK, but kind of weird with Canvas noted in the "gold bar". I think we can all tell by the feel that they are not base, duh! I am up in the air on the shooting star design, kind of plain without a foil background, but the shooting stars across the background kind of make them look a little neat and accentuate what the insert is. The whole base and young card designs are nice, I thought I wasn't going to like them, but in person they don't bother me. As for the game jersey change this gets a as it is so nice to see some design of interest (Stanley Cup) to show the jersey swatch. I really liked that when ITG did it a few years ago. I don't know why, it just makes it look better than a circle or a square. Hope your boxes are great! Happy Thanksgiving! |

QUOTE(artyman60 @ Nov 27 2019, 06:03 AM) I think a big issue in this modern day “hobby” is just that, it’s no longer a hobby as much as it is an investment tool with people “investing” to flip quick. It’s rare you find anyone new to sports cards who isn’t in it to flip or invest. You’ve also got clowns like Gary V pushing an agenda and creating artificial hype to pump certain cards creating huge unrealistic spikes in prices which creates a frenzy of guys hyping and flipping only to move onto the next big deal Obviously group breaks have all but helped price individuals out of buyin wax with company’s figuring it out and upping the price on what would even be their cheaper products to go for more then even I can really afford let alone a kid trying to come into the hobby. I could go on but honestly at this point I just sound like the old man screaming get of my lawn. Like I’m sure most have I now just buy singles and quietly collect cards, occasionally meeting someone who does the same. Arty great point on the group breaks. I did not even think about this, but you are correct. A perfect example is Black Diamond hockey, it used to be a 24 pack box with several hits and box priced under $100. Now it is a "higher end" product with 5 cards per box, some of the cards contain either manufactured patches or diamonds and the box is mostly "hits", and only 1 numbered base. This does lean to group breaks rather than set collectors/builders, unless you are a gambler or have $ to throw around. Trading is another animal, too much confusion on what is the value, some use beckett, some use ebay sales, others COMC sales, others who knows how they come up with it? Then postage to mail the trade, is more than some cards are worth, especially to Canada, so that makes it harder to trade. Also, the fact that everyone wants the top players vs. teams players in trades makes it hard. I don't want to "trade down", but lots of traders want you to, because it is what you collect. Some are fair, but there are a lot of "flippers"/"investors" nowdays in the arena. |
